August 8, 2012 at 9:42 am #179755Hi,
I really need it the menu to appear everywhere except the homepage.
The main menu doesn’t seem to be published in the Module Manager, so I can’t choose there to not show it on the homepage.
How do I go about doing this?
Don’t want to do an index.html splash page, as I still require all the other modules in the other positions, but can’t have a menu at the top!
Thanks in advance,
Mattswissa Friendswissa

You can do this by making a new Layout in Template Manager and call it “Home Page” or something like this by cloning the default layout. Once you have done this you need to edit it and remove this line
<block name="header" type="header" main-inner="1"></block>
Then you need to go to Profiles and make a new one. Scroll down to the layout section and make sure that you pick your new Desktop Layout – Home Page.
Now on the left side look at Page Assignments and on the left click and pick the home page only and on the right assign it to the Home Page profile.
Save and you should have the home page without a menĂ¼ and all the others with.
Hope I’ve explained this ok for you!

August 8, 2012 at 1:58 pm #463608Hi,
Excellent – that’s perfect – taught me even more than I asked for…thanks a lot for that…
Would have been useful to know that feature for some of my other Joomla sites! However, it also gets rid of my logo – is there a way to keep the logo?
Or how about if I want to use a different menu in that header (but only on the homepage)?
Thanks again,

Matt</blockquote>Hi Matt,
It’s amazing how much one can learn by looking through the forums! đŸ˜‰
I haven’t played with Puresite but I would imagine the easiest way to do what you want (rather than hacking index.php) is to try making a new module position and then for the home page only assign an html-custom-module to the position with the logo in it! Or your new menĂ¼ if that is what you want. There are plenty in the JED .
Hope that points you in the right direction for you!

August 13, 2012 at 3:59 pm #464080Hi swissa,
Thanks again… the thing is, with the logo, it would have to be a module position on top of another module – is this possible? i.e. I don’t want it to take up an entire horizontal space? Also, once changing the layout for the homepage, I’m getting a 500 error, “Layout default not found” on some links…any ideas why?
Thanks,

August 13, 2012 at 4:20 pm #464082Hi Matt,
Module positions – remember that you can use the same one for different modules just by assigning which page they appear on – so you can show one module on one page and another on a differing page – in the same position.
Being blind i.e. not having seen your site I can’t say why! Sorry! đŸ˜‰

August 14, 2012 at 2:10 pm #464199Hi Matt,
I installed Puresite just to have a play and see what I could learn. đŸ™‚
So I have a very quick way to give you what you want I think.
First you need to create a new menĂ¼. Don’t put any menĂ¼ items in it – call it z.B. Front-Page
Ok, now go to Template Manager.
For the homepage we will use the Profile we made earlier but we are going to change a couple of things. First, pick the layout default for it. This will add the logo back in. Now scroll up a bit to the menĂ¼ settings. There you need to pick the new menĂ¼ we made – Front-Page.
Save it all and you should get the logo on the home page and the logo and menĂ¼ on all others. đŸ™‚
Might be an easier way for you to achieve what you want?!
