March 15, 2009 at 3:14 am #296019I agree with most of scotty’s post, except, I have to say, I really LOVE your use of negative space to the left of the logo in the header. Sometimes this is the hardest thing to get in graphic design. If it’s not used properly, it looks really bad. But I think you nailed it here.
Speaking of the header, I am going to comment on your layout of the home page this time. I am saying this mostly for myself, as I have clients who despise having to scroll on the home page. They believe explicitly in the Golden Rule of “Don’t Make Me Think!” Would you entertain the idea of JUST having what you see immediately on the home page the only thing that’s there? Then access the rest of the site from the buttons at the top? The content below is so good, it would be really great to just see by itself without the distraction (IMHO) of the gorgeous header above.
Here’s a site (please bear with me, it’s really ugly right now, and in it’s inception stages!) that my clients suggest simply having a big chunky header on and then the content articles on the succeeding pages.
I hope it’s OK to post a link to another site in this post.
Just my two cents….ROCK ON, jwellman! 😀

March 15, 2009 at 3:55 am #296028Unlike my siblings I unfortunately do not have an IT degree, (insert jealous – middle sibling – rolling of the eyes :laugh:) but I think that type of page is similar to a splash page…sort of? Only it’s not in flash, which is a good thing. Someone needs to fix the links in their slide show!
I enjoyed the site’s simplicity. It’s easy to find your way around, unlike many of my sites where content often loses the visitor.
I’m getting ready to bid on a job for a large organization. The type home page you suggest is similar to what they have in mind. This site is going to be a huge project and I’m nervous about making a good first impression. I’m going to put together a mock site for them so maybe it is meant for me to heed your advice!

Good decision, not because your site is not good enough for this month. But i can name some reasons why it would be smarter to wait a month.

😀 Thanks Bennitos.I was about to enter the site and Becca emailed and had found two more broken links. Since this site is a new born and we’ve had so many ups and downs with security, it’s just too soon for me to say that the site is “Error Free.” Besides that Todd is still adding more stuff (he just added Twitter this morning) so my gut says wait.

I looked at the site and it looks very nice. The colors, pictures, everything, and maybe I didn’t look hard enough, but I didn’t really find anything to put my finger on.
If I were to suggest anything it would be to make the top picture wider and less high in order to have less empty space on the top of the page.
