We would like to address some points in addition to the recently discussed Home Call issues with Joomlart.com templates a lot of legal users experienced in the same ways.
My clients installed a legally purchased template from this club, infact they are paying members here, and are legally allowed to use the template named JA Mesolite. Upon testing the template and the order process with the preinstalled VirtueMart Component we like to address the following issue that came up to all my clients:
When installing the template and testing the functions, the order checkout with a test purchase it came to the returning result that the confirmation page was showing the following information.
A confirmation e-Mail was sent to: nh@hong
In the first step did it seem to be a Quickstart Demo Content issue, in the following testruns this suddenly changed.
Testing the process with another test account, the e-Mail shown in the field was no longer an invalid demo e-mail but an apparently existing yahoo email address of a third person or party
A confirmation e-mail was sent to: *@yahoo.com
This e-mail includes information about the domain, the location, the name of the person and probably more relevant information that may be used for home call functions.
A simple investigation of the e-mail address led to the result that it standing in a connection to a public homepage located in Asia.
Creating another testaccount from another IP Address range suddenly made this error disappear and the actually registered client e-mail was shown on the page and a confirmation e-mail was also sent to the registered client e-mail.
The upcoming Home call issue can best be described as this potential case.
To secure to know who is using the JA Mesolite template with the VM component, a function installed in the VM blocks the system from functioning the right way when the client accounts are created via IP Addresses from the same range of the owner of the template. Yet, in this case there is no harm to the owner of the template as it is “only” a test purchase but as shown are those e-mails sent to existing e-mail addreses providing information about the location, the domain name and additional information about the person or entity using the JA Mesolite template.
Also when this is solved when creating another testaccount from another IP Address range it is still a home call threat as it is not wished by any of the users here.
First, it wastes the users a lot of time figuring out what the problem with the system is that it sends out e-mails to third parties and second it is inacceptable to purchase a membership when not receiving a product that may still not be free of any home call function that still may be hidden to the owner of the template and his or her clients.
The status quo is that we do not know if still e-mails are sent to any third parties while the legal use of the template and if a third party has access to client & purchases relevant information via a hidden home call function.
Thank you for your time.
