July 12, 2013 at 8:06 am #188898How are template-custom.less and variables-custom.less used from e.g. …./templates/ja_onepage/less/themes/modern
I had hoped to keep all my own customizations easily visible in there, simply overriding the settings in the main .less files but this does not seem to work. If I can’t do this override, what is the expected purpose of these files?

July 12, 2013 at 8:28 am #498817Hi
As described HERE
Development Mode
This is an important option. You should clearly define the differences between enabling and disabling the option.
Enable Development Mode
When you are developing your site, you should enable this option. Once it’s turned on, your site directly runs on original files – LESS files.
After you finish your development, you should compile LESS to CSS. This option will compile LESS files to CSS files. All your changes in LESS files will be compiled to corresponding CSS files.
Disable Development Mode
When you are not developing your site, you should disable the option. This will increase your site speed. In this mode, your site runs on CSS, not LESS. The CSS files are compiled from LESS files.

July 12, 2013 at 9:03 am #498826Thanks for a prompt reply but I didn’t see anywhere in the reference you cite any mention of the two files I ask about.

July 13, 2013 at 11:47 am #498915For example. If I want to change @TPLbaseColor variable in the …../less/themes/modern/variables.less I could edit the file, this works of course, but I tried simply redefining the variable in variables-custom.less, which did nothing. Defining it this way would mean that, for the few changes I have to make are all well localised and visible.
