You would want to use one of the Joomla extensions to add adsense to your site that has the JA template. There are a few out there but you would want to make sure that the extension is compatible with the version of Joomla you are using. I had one that stopped working past version 1.5

You can easily add google ads in your website by using modules, just place any module with google ads code to your website to any positions you like.

You can use some pre made modules at http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/ads-a-affiliates/google-ads

The module will help to make things easier, of course the module will still ask you some basic codes. Which will be provided by google.
