How can we adjust so that there is space between the image and the
text in an article (when we add smaller pictures throughout an article
and adjust them right or left)?

When you insert your image, make sure that you have clicked ‘caption’ (even if you don’t want a caption), otherwise you won’t get a gap between the image and text. Should look something like this:
