It is quite simple (see how I have done it here – http://www.windsurf.me.uk).

Open template.css and around line 20 find the following code


body#bd {
background:none repeat scroll 0 0 #0C0304;

}


and replace with something like

body#bd {
background:url("/templates/ja_community_plus/images/body-bg.jpg") repeat scroll 0 0 transparent;
color:#8B8077;

}

replacing the but in red with the link to your image. The exact code (the repeat scroll 0 0 transparent bit) will depend on the image you are using.
