I tried to modify the gif files in the following directory/plugins/content/ja_tabs/themes/kulanite
but the tabs still showed up white.

Are the tab images somewhere else.

open /plugins/content/ja_tabs/themes/kulanite/style.css (line 153)

.kulanite .ja-tabs-title-bottom {
background:transparent url(grad1.gif) repeat-x scroll center bottom;
height:40px;
position:relative;
}

and edit grad1.gif or change to color like that: background: #FFF;
