I have erased the following files:

templates/t3_bs3_blank/favicon.ico
templates/purity_iii/favicon.ico
templates/t3_blank/favicon.ico

Then I put my own favicon.ico in here:
templates/purity_iii/favicon.ico

Instead I am seeing the Joomla favicon.

Where is the correct way to place it?

I erased ALL the favicons I could find from all the templates, T3 etc.

Then I right-clicked RELOAD on the top TAB. It did change the favicon to the one I had placed in
templates/purity_iii/favicon.ico

So I am set.

I just have to remember to repeat this next time I upgrade the template.

You only have to replace
templates/purity_iii/favicon.ico
File clean your Joomla and Browser cache to see the changes .
