Hi, The title of this post really says most of what my problem is. Because of the file size, I couldn’t upload through my webhosts secure ftp, and I had to use filezilla. When I finally managed to do that, the quickstart template is sitting in the public_html folder, but I don’t know how to get it to my Joomla website template manager? As I have 4 sites planned to build over the next month, your advice would be much appreciated. Please make it simple as I am vey new to Joomla and have limited website knowledge(which is why I chose Joomla). Thanks in anticipation.

    Best Wishes,

Hi Pavit. Thanks for your reply, but I know all that. I just need to know how to get it to my template manager in Joomla from the public_html folder on my webhosts server, and that doesn’t explain it.

Perhaps this step-by-step tutorial may help you understand the quickstart process a bit better . . . . . .

When you successfully complete the quickstart installation process, the template will automatically be within the listing within your Template Manager in your site Administration Backend. This is all part of the installation process – there is no “move from public_html to Template Manager” step.

Well Tom C. it’s just not happening is it. I’ve been trying to upload a quickstart template since last week without success, and without correct guidance. Joomlart can either tell me how to do it or they can’t? If I sound a little annoyed about this now…..I am! Will you please give me the correct instructions, or pass this over to someone who can, and please do not send me the same quickstart instructions and videos that don’t even apply to me, over and over again. This needs to be sorted now, once and for all!!!

Paul, quickstarts are fresh installations of joomla that will provide you with a website exactly as the demo.

if you want to install a template you have to download just the template file not the quickstart.

For the better part of a week now, I have endeavored several times over to assist you with getting your site back up – both through one-on-one personal assistance via the Support Ticket system as well as taking the time to compose a step-by-step visual tutorial on how to successfully perform a quickstart installation (which I then decided to share with the rest of the JA Community).

When you asked for my assistance with your installation issue, I voluntarily offered you my personal assistance in performing this task for you. As you are aware, I required additional information regarding your particular webhost and webhost account (which, apparently, is located overseas) . . . and, in fact, it took time for you to provide your response to me so that I had the tools I needed to proceed. furthermore, you also must understand and consider the fact that we seem to be within different time global zones – which would be an additional reason for any perceived “delay.”

Nevertheless, as it seems that neither an easy to follow step-by-step visual tutorial (with supplemental video demonstration), nor my willingness to devote personal attention to assist you is acceptable to you at this point, I will respectfully hand this matter over to my esteemed Support/Moderator colleagues to try to assist you.

Best of luck with your continued endeavors.

    🙂

    Paul,

If you have uploaded the quickstart files to the wrong folder then that really is something for you to speak to your host about. Only they will know the correct folder for you to upload your files to as all web hosts are different.

When you knwo the correct folder do not use the web ftp from your cpanel as they are not propper ftp apps. Instead you did the right thing by using filezilla.

Unzip the entire quickstart package on your desktop then upload all the files (not the root folder they are in but all the files and folders inside) to the location suggested by your host. This will be wherever your initial index.html file was located. When done simply browse to your site and go through the normal Joomla install not forgetting to press the “Install Sample Data” button at the end. That step is very important in this case.

If you have trouble doing that then JA do offer an installation service for $40.

I understand that Tom tried to carry out the installation for you. However he was lacking some of the required information to carry this out quickly. If you decide to avail yourself of the paid installation service then please make sure you provide all of the required information. If any of it is incorrect then due to the timezone differences (and the fact some of us have normal day jobs and just help out JA in our spare time) that there may be some delays involved in getting the information back and forth between JA and yourself. Normally an installation is done withing 24 hours but if information is incorrect then it can take a lot longer.

Please tell me what we can do to further assist you to resolve your issues.

    Tom,

    Good work on the tutorial.

Hi Cyprusmedya, and thanks for your reply. I understand exactly what you say, and have done since last week. The problem I have is that I want the quickstart package uploading, and for various reasons I haven’t been able to do this, and more importantly, no-one has been able to tell me or show me how to do it. Tom Crawford has tried his best, but despite sending me links to the same quickstart installation videos, on numerous occasions, he hasn’t achieved what I want…..The successful uploading of the quickstart package to my website. I don’t really want anyone to do this for me as I am reasonably capable, I just want to know the exact instructions that apply to my particular case.
    Best Wishes,

Dear Phill, Thanks for your mail but I won’t be able to reply to you properly until later this evening. In the meantime please be assured that I know exactly how the quickstart process works, (I’ve been sent the video enough times) but it is not applicable in my case, and despite what you think, I have not had the answers I need to solve this issue, otherwise we wouldn’t still be at the stage we are, a week after the process started. When you are aware of all the facts, I hope then you can solve this for me.
    Best Wishes,

    Paul,

You say it is not applicable but for us to help you need to tell me why it is not applicable. I am happy to try and help you but I need all the information to do so.

The other guys that have tried to assist you have shared with me what they have done so I am partly aware of the facts from their side.

Hi, maybe there is something i can do to help you here! If you go with quick start package there is no need (and can’t be used) to go to template manager in Joomla.
All you have to do is upload the quickstart zip file package to your /public_html or /httpdocs folder, unzip it and then browse your domain name and follow step by step instructions as a normal joomla installation.

    Regards
