April 29, 2009 at 8:06 pm #140726Joomla 1.5.10 & Ja_Edenite template
Template menu is set to “Moomenu”* I set up the main menu (horizontal) with 3 items with submenus
* The submenu are displaying correctly in the left navigation when you select a main menu item
* Several of the submenu have a second level submenu.I need to set up the menu system so that the second level submenu items on display if you click on or select their parent. They should not display by default.
In the admin, module manager I have tried numerous configurations to try to make that happen. The most obvious is to click NO on “Always show sub-menu Items”.
It does not need the smooth accordion effect, just needs to display when called. Thx, Bob

April 29, 2009 at 9:42 pm #302957Bob open the menu in the module manager and under ‘Other Parameters’ make sure ‘Expand Menu’ is set to NO. (this is not the same as the one you mentioned above)

April 30, 2009 at 1:31 am #302999Scotty, thanks but I also tried that, many many combinations turning it on/off in combination to the other option and changing the menu numbers from 0 to 1,2,3 etc but no dice.. Here are links to 3 images of the parameters.
The site under development can be found at: http://74.53.228.210/~energist
Select PV systems then look at Test Menu. It has 2 example submenu items which should only display when you select Sample toplevel item or either of the sublevels if you already selected the toplevel button.
I currently have the module set to
Start Level: 0
End level: 0
Always show sublevel items: Yes (otherwise not even the toplevel displays)
Expand menu: Yes (everything else in other also set to Yes)I have tried using half a dozen other joomlart templates with the same results. If you have this working can you point me to an example and point out any flaws in what I’ve tried?
thx, Bob

April 30, 2009 at 1:50 am #303000Slight correction – I just tried this on a site using JA_Trona and it works. Was there possibly a change to the menu system sometime between Edenite and Trona?

May 3, 2009 at 3:25 pm #303283The problem is resolved but I did not identify the ROOT cause. I tried every variation known to mankind in the menu’s modules parameters,
Module Parameters
Advance Parameters
Other ParametersAbsolutely NO effect. I backed up the database content, then on a last ditch hunch I decided to reinstall Joomla using the quickstart rather than vanilla install and subsequently installling the theme. It worked like a champ. I restored the content and is still working.
Although I would like to know the root cause I just don’t have the time to track it backwards to eliminate variables.
