    Hi

I have a Joomlart templated website that i have developed in a subfolder of the live domain. I now need to move the site to the top level. How easy is this to do, taking into account the database link etc etc?

What are the steps i need to take in order please?

    Many thanks

    Hi Munders,

There are two ways of moving your site.

    1. Shifting folder to its new location and changing the config file to correct path.

    2. Using Joomlapack to pack the site as Joomla installer and running the installer from the new directory.

You can read the instructions of Joomlapack to make a zip of your site. It gets as easy as installing joomla itself.

    Regards

Many thanks for your prompt reply.

Option 1 sounds like the quickest/easiest, but where is the config file and is it as simple as updating the path and uploading the file?

    Thanks

I prefer option 2 (using joomlapack).

If you try option 1, then you shall need to open configuration.php in your site root, and check for paths and change them accordingly. especially the paths of tmp and logs. Plus for components which depends on paths, such as Virtuemart, Docman etc… you will need to change the same in their config file.

    regards

    arvind.

This is the reply I got from Joomlart…

    Thank you for contacting Joomlart

For the case, you only move files in this subfolder to the top of folder.

I wait until no users are online (this is important because the gallery folder sometimes seems to lock some files and when i deleted with a use online i couldnt delete the file and folder for hours

Then when coast is clear, i delete the files on the root (old website or whatever) making sure i dont delete my subfolder installation.

Then using Cpanel provided by my hosting I copy the files in my subfolder to the root

    Thats all

Keep a backup of old files in 2nd subfolder to be sure and if there is a problem, quickly recopy old files in a couple of seconds.

You can also have many copies of same website in different subfolders using same database.

    Hope I get thanked 🙂

But when you transfer these files you do not have the original installation folder. Is this needed?
