We are in “LocalHost” mode. Here is a picture of what we have now. (attached).
I want to import the posts and pages I have made on the wordpress site http://www.reflectionson.us rather than having to redo all the articles in my Teline III site.

How can I do it? Has anyone had success with this type of task?

    Thank you.

    Hi filmlover7.

One easy way to achieve this would be to install JConverter component (or similar migration extension) and then import your content. As it says in the description, it can import users, blog posts, categories, pages and links from your WordPress blog to Joomla.

    Good luck 🙂

Good suggestion. Thank you. Have you, or do you know someone who has, tried it?

Will Teline III be able to ‘process’ the stories?

    Dear filmlover7,

Dont you think, the question is more about Joomla! and WordPress. Teline III is just a template. Please use google to find more about wordpress to Joomla migration.

Thank you for your comment. My answer is No, I do not think it is inappropriate to ask Teline III users this question. Teline uses devices to sort and position articles so my question is regarding any conflicts that may exist.
The purpose of these forums is to have a community that can share information about how to get things working on the sites, not just technical details about the templates and extensions. Right?

And furthermore, it would make a lot of sense for JoomlArt to offer an import function like this.

    Cheers,

    Dear filmlover7,

I did not say my opinion to discourage you. Yes, it is a discussion and my point is simple. Teline doesnot store the articles, it only helps to display the articles. The feature which makes Teline III different from other JA templates is the extensive dependency on the JA News Frontpage Module, which displays the category content on the frontpage and the JA Zin Plugin, which auto generates the menu links as per the section / categories.

If your import to Joomla is correct, why would Teline show conflicts? Teline is lifeless without Joomla! Core.

Wordpress is a totally different CMS and to import articles, you would be doing that in Joomla!, teline cannot help you in importing articles from wordpress. Teline is just a template and doesnot have any capability of a component. The functionalities in teline is extended because of modules used, teline gives them the CSS styles and pixel space to show them.

Regarding migration tool from WP to Joomla!, histeriks has already given a link for you. JoomlArt is not going to make another one, especially when these are available.

    Dear Arvind,
Thank you for clarifying that. I will try the JConverter as histeriks suggests. My hesitance is based on the recommendations of JA to install Teline WITH SAMPLE DATA,
and JConverter says to install WITHOUT SAMPLE DATA.
    What is your opinion?
    Cheers,

    Dear filmlover7,

I would suggest the following :

    1. Get your WP articles migrated to Joomla!.
    2. Then install the Teline III template (not the quickstart). Install the accompanying extensions, which make the Teline III demo possible.
    3. Check the Teline III userguides and set the module settings as per them. Or best would be to install the teline III quickstart in your localhost and configure the modules / plugins as per the backend of the quickstart.

This will give the looks of the Teline III demo site on your site with different content. No need to install Teline III sample data for that.

Please let me know if you need more clarification.

I would just like to point you to the fact that nowhere on the JConverter page it says that you MUST install on a clean Joomla installation. This is, as it seems, just their recommendation, because of the possible conflicts in article id’s or whatever reason there is. My suggestion would be to install the quickstart, delete all articles and categories/sections, and then try to import WP articles. If it fails, then go normal, fresh install route.

    Dear histeriks and Arvind,
Thank you for your help. This is a stupid question, but I am new at this.
JConverter says “could not connect to MySql.” when I run the converter.
    1. I have the Joomla/Teline on my local computer
    2. I have made a backup of the WordPress MySql database and put it in the htdocs folder, inside the MAMP folder
    3. it is called “xyz.sql”
    4. I run the JConverter from my local Joomla admin
How do I get the converter to read the wp database?
(I know this is not a JA issue, but I don’t know how else to get help. the JConverter folks don’t answer.)
    Thank you in advance!

    Hi filmlover7,

i think you missed one very important step. There’s no need for making a backup of the database and putting it in the htdocs folder. After you install JConverter, open it from Components menu and you’ll be presented with this screen:

Before starting the conversion process, open Global Configuration by clicking on the left icon and once there, fill in the parameters needed for JConverter to function properly. Here is an explanation:

Once you set everything up, click on the Save button and you’ll be returned to previous screen where you can start the conversion process normally.

    Hope this helps 🙂
