May 31, 2008 at 5:09 pm #129138I do not find the instructions, or the feature of the JA News Module for JA Teline II, so
How do you rearrange the sections in the JA News?
I do not see the logic in the arrangement of the Sections included in the JA News:
It does correlate with their arrangement in the Magazine Menu
It does not seem to correlate with their arrangement either in the Sections Manager.
I hope there is a way of doing this. I looked but I cannot find it. Note that this used to be quite easy to do in the JA News of the original JA Teline.
Thanks.
Cornelio

June 1, 2008 at 9:47 pm #251487cgc0202,
I was also strugeling with this for a bit but here is the HowTo:
1. Go to your mod_janews and open it
2.Go to Module Parameters
3. You will see a list of stuff like:
1
19:cyan
13:red
14:orange
18:deepblue
8:deepblue
9: pink
11:lime
12:cyan
6
(this is the way I have it)
the number is the section ID and the color is the color when doing mouseower. The order is vertical from top to down then next colum and so on so you need to do some math to get it nice hoirizontaly.
Hope this will help you.

June 1, 2008 at 10:05 pm #251489Somthing I have not figured out is the sort order of the articles that shows.
Is it sorted by Category ID or article ID? Or somthing similar?
I get stuck with the oldest picture always showing. It would be nice to get the newest one instead.BosseP

Hi BosseP,
I thought the default arrangements of the articles, at least in the Introductory page of the website is always the “latest first” within each section, in the JA News. If you want to change the basis of arrangement of the articles, for each section in the homepage, you do have choices:
Ordering
Date created
Date modifiedThe above options menu is also found in the JA News
However, you are correct, in the Intro page of each section, it seems the old articles are first. However, that is not really the case. The order of the articles is based on the way the categories in each section have been arranged.
valic has found a way around this. And this involves creation of a specific JA News for each section. Please refer our “dialog” on this. I have not gotten it right yet because I have been busy with more pressing stuff right now. It works though, if you look at the website of valic [ many sexy women photos too.:)]

Bosse</blockquote>Hi Bosse,
It is amazing sometimes how things would have been much easier if there is just a well-written “user manual” and FAQs. It took time for me to find where it is.
If you go to the
Admin => JA News
Just below the Details section, you have the:
Parameters
Module Class Suffix
Add Module CSS Yes NoArticle Order
Ordering
Created Date
Modified DateI did not really try it yet, but it looks like it is the one. Let me know if it works. 🙂
I think the choice Ordering would be the most versatile among the three. You can always mix and match old and new articles, depending on what you wish to feature.

Bosse,
Yes! It is in the JA News, I just check. By the way, I am using the Joomla 1.0.x version of JA Teline II not the one for Joomla 1.5x

June 2, 2008 at 4:22 pm #251585Cornelio,
Hmm, I am on 1.5.3 woner if that makes a differnce.
It could be that I was using the first module that came out. Perhaps I should try to un install and install the latest one if it is a differance. Have you seen anything about it?Bosse

Bosse,
I just checked my Joomla 1.5.x and it is there. It is just above the
****************
Group by Category or Section Category Section
Category (Section) ID13:red
14:orange
8:deepblue
12:cyan
5:green
9: pink
11:lime
6
****************My own bias is that the Joomla 1.5.x is not yet ready. According to TeeTide, (see his post here), the JA Teline II is much much slower with Joomla 1.5.x than with Joomla 1.0.x
I believe him but there are more reasons why I think Joomla 1.5.x (and responded in TeeTide’s post). One of them is that Community Builder is not native to Joomla 1.5.x, and I do not want to use Legacy mode because some of the extensions I use sometimes are incompatible with Legacy mode.
Going back to Community Builder, I need the feature there to enable the “Admin” approval of people who registered and have verified that their email address is valid. Right now, the default registration for Joomla only requires validation of email address and activation by the registrant.
It you know any module that allows Admin approval of registration, then I might look into Joomla 1.5.x. I installed one also for JA Teline II to see if it works, but has not really explored it yet. I am focusing on Joomla 1.0.x
I am getting so many things messed up in Joomla 1.0x still and I do not know what is causing them.

June 2, 2008 at 4:56 pm #251590OK,
I dont have it. I will re-install the JA news modules after carfully taking notice of my settings.
As you say the documentation has some flaws so I better take care of that as my site looks as I want it now.cgc0202 Friendcgc0202

If I were you, unless you are pressed for diskspace, I would do a QuickInstall, using the QuickStart kit in a different directory. And see how it works (not touching your website now).
I was rearranging my Section modules, and for some reason, the nice layout of the Section intro were messed up, I do not know what triggered it.
Something odd with the JA Teline II, I cannot seem to add modules, like a copy of the JA News, to serve as intro page for the section. It does not seem to replace the default page.
Do you know what module controls the Intro Section page?
From the permission:
JA News was set to “All” so I changed that for example to Home of the Magazine.
the I set the “JA News World” to the specific section “World”, nothing else. I expect the copy “JA News World” to become the JA News for the Intro page of the section “World”, but it does not seem to show.
Any bright ideas?

June 2, 2008 at 5:38 pm #251600Hello Cornelio,
Well as a man of action and no safety nets I did an uninstall and installed a new version.
That was an upgrade from 1.3.0 to 1.3.1 and hey, I got the sort order now.
But something else got screwed up. It looks horrendous at the moment.
http://www.guatemala-times.com
It looks like something went wrong with the CSS!And Yes I should probably have installed to another directory or domain but
I was a bit trigger happy. I also have my editor screaming CAN WE PUT UP SOME NEWS NOW!Oh well I will let it be as is for the moment and go figure how my pix could get resized.

Bosse,
Yeah, I saw that. I was revising one of my Joomla 1.0.x too and the layout itself got messed up, no idea what happened. It seems quite major also.
Was the original 3-columns? If I remember correctly, you had two columns before. Try shifting that to a 2 column. The CSS are all over the place though.
Did you customize the CSS and saved it? Or, if you have not done so, try the default CSS, from an unpacked Joomla-JA Teline QuickStart Kit?
Customizing the CSS is a pain, because there are so many of them for the different components, as well as the original Joomla.
I have not used it yet, but there is a Joomla extension that allows you to extract the “Contents” (not the whole database) and export it to a new one.
I hope it gets fixed.
Cornelio
