Hi I am new to Joomla and the Teline II templales. I have set it up and have it working great with some external components (Jreview).
Anyhow, I am wondering how the Magazine menu works. How it is connected to the template layout of Teeline (Ja News)? Could any one tell me the basics behind the Magazine menu?
The reason for asking is that I want to try set up this menu using the non quick start teeline package (is that possible).
Look forward to any answer, thanks!

July 21, 2008 at 2:57 pm #261204Hi there
To be honest, it’s much easier to figure out the Magazine menu by installing the QuickStart and modifying the existing.
Basically, the magazine menu connects the menu, to the sections, then the categories.
What version of Joomla are you using by the way?
July 21, 2008 at 3:01 pm #261207Thanks, somewhat still wondering what connects this menu within the template… Is it just the name, Magazine or any module name?

July 21, 2008 at 3:08 pm #261210It’s just a name given to the ‘main buttons menu’ across the top. There’s some strange names for other things that the JA developers just happen to give them as they design the template (for instance, ‘top menu’ is actually right at the bottom of the page!!).
If you install the QuickStart and reproduce the demo Teline II site, then things are much easier to figure out … plus we can then offer much more help in modifying the demo site to your own requirements.
Good luck!

July 21, 2008 at 3:14 pm #261212The magazine menu is a plug in you can administer in the Plug In Manager of your Joomla. If you decide to use this, then you need to go to your Template Manager and select *magazine (or the name given in the plug in configuration) to make ot work.
After that, you need to go to your Menu Manager and disable the Joomla Menu, except fo the home page…
Hope this helps.
July 21, 2008 at 5:33 pm #261252Hmm Thanks for this information. Anyhow does this Magazine plugin comes with the Teeline installation or do I have to go for the Quickinstallation? I dont find it… ;-(
Thanks!

Reading Hung’s User Guide would help, it is too complex to answer all of the nuances from the question.
Is there any reason why you do not like the QuickStart? I would understand if you already have an existing site.

This is a very key information that the others have not already stated. Be sure if you create “new” Section or Category, you start creating this in the Section or Category manager, respectively. Not from the Magazine menu.Note, there is a great difference between the original Teline JA News module from the Teline II. JA News or the standalone JA News.
For example, even if you have a Section appear in the Magazine menu, it will not automatically appear in the Teline II Homepage. What is displayed in the Homepage “News Section” is dictated by what you specify in the JA News Module. If you access the JA News Module, for Joomla 1.5.x:
administrator => Extensions -=> Modules Manager => JA News
there is a portion like this (right side, if I am not mistaken):
Sections or Categories list =>(select Section)
inside the box below, you will see something like this:
13:deepblue
6:green
11:red
7:cyan
etc.
I made the numbers up, see Hung’s guide (in the sticky) for a cartoon of this, in the Homepage, the numbers refer to the Section ID, and the colors refer to the colors found in a template. You may select a same color, or the allowed array of colors in the list.
There are more to learn about Magazine menu, and how to set it up properly. Unfortunately, even the Hung users guide does not go into the details.
So, many of us are doing a great guessing game. Hmm… maybe this works… Oh no, I messed it up. And we come here screaming sometimes. 🙂
