January 28, 2016 at 4:52 pm #870744Hi
You cannot assign an article to a position , if you want to show only 1 article into your home then you should choose as your menu item type the single article and then choose the article you want to show
Hope it helps
If you still need help you can answer as private reply to this adding a temp super user account to your backend and i will help
March 1, 2016 at 5:44 am #892737OK I understand the problem more now. I don’t seem to have a mechanism for creating more than one template style at a time. Either all are set to default or all are set to home-1. I cannot add a style and give it the home-1 layout and then just assign this layout to the home page which seems like the thing i should be able to do is that right? There is no ‘add’ button on the template layout page, should there be?
March 1, 2016 at 5:46 am #892738There is only one style listed in the ‘current style’ drop down list.

You can create a new template style and change layout assigned to it , as showed into image below.
In this layout you should have the component / content block ( where article will be showed ) and then change module positions above and below the component block , so you can use one of the 3 default layouts available.
