I have been trying to make the Ja_News sections have several colours or even more than stated on the userGuide. There, it says that these colours can work:
13:red
14:orange
8:deepblue
12:cyan
5:green
9: pink
11:lime

However, only GREEN, CYAn, ORANGE and RED are working.

How do I make more than 10 varieties work?

I found some solution for your problem. You must colorize the pictures of the background of the ja news module. Look at the css of the ja news and found names of that pictures and change it to the color you need and save as their extensions are. .gif.

I believe the solution has not much to do with images. I was expecting something related to
