I have verified the different post about this task and I haven’t been able to solve this situation. I have done the 3 basics steps of changing a Joomla template name in a site, but with this I have no luck.

    The steps I did were:
01- Change the template folder name
02- Change the name in the TemplateDetails.xml
03- Select the specified name in the template manager in the backend

Can somebody tell me how to do it?

Hi, thanks for your reply. That link says: You do not have permission to access this page.

My problem continues without solution. I don’t know what to do on that matter. Can I receive some help?

How to rename your joomla template in Joomla 1.7 – A step by step guide

In this guide we take for example the ja_Bistro installed template

    1) Goto joomla path/templates/Ja_bistro, copy the folder Ja_bistro and rename it in the name you like, in our case it will be ( your_new_template ) so in your templates folder you will have all olds template and a new folder named your_new_template

    2) In your_new_template folder open the file templateDetails.xml at line 7 you have <name>JA_BISTRO</name> change to <name>your_new_template</name>

    3 ) At line 37 you have <language tag=”en-GB”>en-GB.tpl_ja_bistro.ini</language> change to <language tag=”en-GB”>en-GB.tpl_your_new_template.ini</language>

    4 ) At line 41 you have <language tag=”en-GB”>en-GB.tpl_ja_bistro.ini</language> change to <language tag=”en-GB”>en-GB.tpl_your_new_template.ini</language>

    5 ) Goto joomla path/administrator/language/en-GB/ rename the file en-GB.tpl_ja_bistro.ini to en-GB.tpl_your_new_template.ini

    6 ) Goto joomla path/languages/en-GB/ rename the file en-GB.tpl_ja_bistro.ini to en-GB.tpl_your_new_template.ini

7 ) Login in your backend and goto Extension –> Extension manager–> and click on the Tab Discover–>

8 ) Now if all steps are done correctly should appear your_new_template, select it and click on install

9 ) Goto Extension –> Extension manager–>Template Manager and set your_new_template as Default template

10 ) Goto Extension –> Extension manager–>choose Tab Manage–> in the select type rows choose template

11 ) Select the Ja_bistro template and uninstall it

    12 ) Clear your JaT3 cache

13 ) That’s all now you have renamed your template and you have your_new_template as the default template
