In Joomla 1.5, the default page title for the home page is ‘Welcome to the Frontpage’. For new users it can be a bit hard to find how to change this and it’s also usually one of the first questions asked.

First log in to your admin section then go through the following steps.

    1. Click on ‘Menus’
    2. Click on ‘Main Menu’
    3. Click on ‘Home’
    4. Click ‘Parameters (System)’ on the right of the page
    5. Change the page title to whatever you want.
    6. Click ‘Save’

Now refresh your home page and you should see your new page title in your browser.

NOTE: Google puts great onus on page titles. It is one of the most important places you can put your keywords and your most important keyword should ALWAYS be included in it. It should also be near the start of the title. Try to keep page titles to no more than 5 or 6 words.

This method can be used to set your page title for your other menu links. Again, Google does not like your page titles to be the same on every page.

The ‘show page title’ option in your ‘Parameters (System)’ has no effect on the page title being show in your browser. It is for using it within your pages and relies on other settings beyond the scope of this tutorial.
