could you explain your question a bit further?
are you referring to any other cms in particular or are you just asking how to post content in joomla…. perhaps with a certain look to your posts etc…? I’d be glad to help you, but I need to know what you mean with your question.

what’s your level of expertise on joomla? are you newbie or regular user… what would you like to do with your joomla-install?

Hi there thanks to both of you.. For the first comment by folkbear i’m a newbie with a basic level of understanding of joomla… I would like to see how i could use Joomla 1.5’s inbuilt blog stuff to create a blog style usable page so someone will be able to post articles within the page and also perhaps other users will be able to comment apon these articles.

I see stuff refering to blog in joomla1.5

Well, I can give quite some explanation on how to do this, but first I suppose you already have a certain template to accomplish this blog of yours….

not all templates are completely head-on to do so, could you tell me what template you prefer and what your blog would be about?

I’ll get back to you in about six hours, after my work, so I can help you a little further. Depending on the template, you might consider just using the inbuilt stuff joomla has, with a commentary-component added. That could also help you a long way.

some propositions : to start with joomla, I think the built-in tinymce editor does not suffice, so first thing I always do, is download JCE (on the joomla extensions page) and install the plugin and the component and then set it as the default editor under global configurations in your backend.

After that, I would have you take a look at some of the commentary-components, also listed on the joomla extensions-pages…. Just leave a message here with your info and findings and we’ll go on from there…

    good luck for now

Hey there folkbear i gather the info will mostly relate to which template i use so for now what i’m going to do is go and post in my template forum on this…. teline11.

Thanks for all the help thus far perhaps though this might start other responses on the subject….

In the joomla system, you can make a user “author”, that way, after logging in, he can place his own articles in the categories he wants, using the frontend only

or if you don’t mind paying some money for a good component, you could try two azrul products : myblog and jomcomment, the explanation for both is on his website azrul.com

there are ofcourse also a lot of good free extensions like yvcomment or joomlacomment.
if you need any explanation, I’m at your disposal.

I would like to use the inbuilt bits if possible perhaps with extensions then..

Idealy i would like people to be able to post with an avatar or profile pick along side.
I would also like the option to include pics with there post
perhaps even small thumbs which could turn into larger photos.

I’m using Myblog myself, and that shows a gravatar/avatar next to each post title. They can also just edit the blogentries like they would do with any normal article… give it a try….

In Myblog, you can adjust the title by clicking on “Blog Title” on top of the popup, just beneath the Myblog-logo…

If you want an avatar for the whole site with personal info linked to it, I suggest you use Communitybuilder or one of the other community-extensions.

I’m personally using gravatar (view at gravatar.com) in combination with the Myblog-component.

And how did you get the Gravatar to work with the myblog?

go to your backend – components – myblog –

    select general settings –
    select layout-tab
under the title avatar-settings, just choose gravatar and click save.

make sure you have a gravatar apointed to the emailadress you use with your joomla-login.
