I would like to create a page in such a way that when visitors type my site url, they are directed to a customized page.

On the “Landing Page” – as I refer the page to – I would like to a welcome text, brief presentation of the site and some images. All this on the same page.

your help is very much appreciated.

    Hi…

There are various methods through which you could create a landing page.

    1. way is within joomla – editing the template index.php – to not show certain content if its the main page
    2. create a sub directory and install joomla there – then the root directory is free for use – where you could put your home page.
    3. which would suite your requirements – see how your hosting company finds the main page
many companies have their default page set as default.html – so if you create a page by that name – then by default that page will open. – this you can also set in the .htaccess page. – you can do a quick search on how to set default page other than index.php

    Thanks Prbalge,

Scotty, why do you hate such pages?

Anything important I should know about it? or is it just a personal preference?

I hate them too, they are usually just a flashy waste of bandwidth.

phill luckhurst;141947I hate them too, they are usually just a flashy waste of bandwidth.

Not only that, but why create the additional step for the user to get to the meat/content of your site?
