February 3, 2010 at 3:20 am #148338I want to remove some of the sections in my front page http://www.vivaasiamagazine.com/joomla like the Chefs Corner but don’t want to remove it from the menu bar. I just don’t want it to display on the Front Page?

February 3, 2010 at 4:41 am #331356Have you tried to Unpublish it from the Magazine menu?
From your back end, go to Menus>Magazine and just unpublish the menu(s) you do not want to show.
I hope this help.

February 3, 2010 at 6:09 am #331361First, you need to go to Section Manager and make a note of the ID number of the section you want to remove (this is the number in the very last column).
Next, go to ‘Extensions’ menu and then ‘Module Manager’.
Find the module ‘JA News2’ and open it.
On the right hand side, in ‘Section IDs’, simply remove any sections that you don’t want to appear on front page:
For instance, if your Chefs Corner section has an ID number of ‘8’, then simply delete the line which starts with 8 and it won’t appear on the front page.
Hope this helps.

February 3, 2010 at 8:50 am #331376Hi Chris, many thanks for the very clear and easy to follow instructions. It worked a treat.
Chris can I ask you a couple of questions. On your site http://www.bulgariannorthwestproperties.com you have the nice pictures at the top running on a loop. What module do you use for that? I would like to take out JA News Frontpage module on my site and replace it with images like you have done on your site (although not as wide as you have done).
Also on the same site you have the property searchable database. What are you using to run that? I want to have a hotel database searchable by country and city. All the software that I have found so far on the web is booking software and at this stage we only want to be running a database where our readers can contact the hotels direct so I don’t need any booking functions.
Cheers,
Jim

February 3, 2010 at 9:04 am #331380Hi Jim
Glad to hear you sorted the sections out!
The images on the Bulgarian North West Properties site are done with the ja_slideshow module that came with the Pyrite template. Very simple to install and configure.
Unfortunately, with the property database, that’s not resident on my site at all. It’s simply a URL to a third party site that I’m pulling into my site via an iFrame!
For the hotel stuff, you could probably use SOBI2? I’ve seen some nice real estate sites, etc., built with this component. Quite easy to install and configure the search functions.
May be worth looking into:
http://www.sigsiu.net/sobi2.htmlIt’s not very ‘pretty’ out of the box but I’ve seen some great customisation done on this and I’m fairly sure it would do what you require.
Good luck with the rest of the site!
Chris
