January 31, 2014 at 11:03 am #194318When selecting a category (blog) view from a menu item the JA Thumbnail plugin controls the image size displayed. When selecting the same category name from, for example, a link in breadcrumbs or a category heading in JA Newspro or a category heading listed at the bottom of a top level menu category view the plugin settings do not appear to apply. The plugin is set to “All category Blog & featured view”
How can I get category (blog) views to be consistent regardless of the category link selected?

February 3, 2014 at 6:10 am #520897I tried to open an article in the Latest News – in the right position of your site, for example: http://217.199.187.59/tecsa.com/joomla2/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=97:neue-3d-farbdruckfaehigkeiten-fuer-kunden-von-photoshop-cc-verfuegbar&catid=20:3d-printing&Itemid=142&lang=en
then click to view category Industry News but it shows the same way like I click Industry News menu item in the main navigation.

February 3, 2014 at 4:43 pm #520983Perhaps I was not clear enough.

Notice the 120 x 120 px image of gold iPhone in Hadoro Launches the World’s First iPhone 5S In Massive Gold Made With 3D Printing Technology
Now click on the 3D Printing category in the info above the article title: i.e. Category:3D PrintingI see an image for the gold iPhone which is now the column width. This is OK, but I wonder why JA Thumbnails size is not applied here?
Am I missing some setting somewhere?

February 5, 2014 at 4:05 am #521218Make sure you add 2 categories: Industry News and 3D Printing into Apply for categories parameter in the backend setting of JA Thumbnail Plugin: http://prntscr.com/2pn0iu
If it still doesn’t work, you can PM me admin credentials of your site, I will check further.

February 7, 2014 at 8:22 am #521644The root of this problem is Integration Mode in backend settings of JA Thumbnail plugin. I accessed backend of your site and see that the Integration mode is set with Disable – which means thumbnail will be disabled in article content.
I just changed it to Manual as per the screenshot: http://prntscr.com/2q932o, then add the {jathumbnail} tag into an article: http://217.199.187.59/tecsa.com/joomla2/index.php/en/industry-news/large-format/824-iqdemy-at-28th-china-international-franchise-exhibition and it works:

February 7, 2014 at 12:36 pm #521681Thanks Saguaro. I ignored that option because of the requirement to add {jathumbnail} to the article. We can’t do that because we want to populate the site with tens of thousands of articles imported from our Joomla 1.5 site. However I notice that if set to the MANUAL option the plugin automatically gets applied to all articles in the category view except for the leading article. Why not the leading article too (without inserting the {jathumbnail}) ?
Could this be another option?
It would also be nice to have an option to limit the number of characters displayed in category views like the old JA News 1.3.1 module for Joomla 1.5.

February 7, 2014 at 11:46 pm #521794See: http://217.199.187.59/tecsa.com/joomla2/index.php/industry-news/analogue-printing where the leading image is 200px wide
and http://217.199.187.59/tecsa.com/joomla2/index.php/industry-news/large-format where the leading image is 300px wide.
JA Thumbnail is set to 300 x 300px for Leading images and 200 x 200px for Content images. The only difference I see is that the KBA article image has a caption style and the IQDEMY article does not. Would this make a difference?
And here http://217.199.187.59/tecsa.com/joomla2/index.php/industry-news/finishing the leading image does not appear at all, but there seems to be a bit of the caption on the far right side.

February 10, 2014 at 3:09 pm #522052Hi Tim,
If you want to have JA Thumbnail plugin applied in all categories without manually add {jathumbnail} tag, please set Integration Mode to Auto, add all categories you want in Apply For Categories option. Then refresh your site again.
Let me know how it goes.

February 12, 2014 at 3:13 pm #522412Thanks. I have set JA Thumbnail plugin to Auto. See http://217.199.187.59/tecsa.com/joomla2/index.php/editorial/large-format/107-buzz-and-excitement-at-sgi which as many images and 2 pages. I only see the first image which also doesn’t popup in modal.
This site seems to have lots of fatal errors but I can only allocate 256M. Maximum allowed.
I wonder if there is a clash with the J2XML Set Images plugin? To add to the confusion see the other thread which is more or less the same subject(s)

February 14, 2014 at 4:17 am #522638It seems to be problem of limited PHP memory size. Depending on your need, server codition, how is your site, you could use 32M, 96M, 128M, 256M, 512M, 1024M, 2048M, 4096M. Make sure your server allows you to use that much dedicated memory.

February 15, 2014 at 3:11 pm #522817I have discovered that 128M is the real limit as outlined in the other thread: http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/ja-news-pro-module-edit-fatal-error/#poststop
I have setup 4 articles in my Joomla 2.5 – Teline IV test site in order to try to understand the pros and cons of using Images and Links or not. So far I find that I can’t get Images and Links to work for me.
Compare these 2 category views:
http://217.199.187.59/tecsa.com/joomla25/index.php/industry-news/analogue-printing
http://217.199.187.59/tecsa.com/joomla25/index.php/industry-news/3d-printingArticles in /analogue-printing use Images and Links and the thumbnail images are float none; i.e. NOT as setup in JA Thumbnail.
Articles in /3d-printing do not use Images and Links but the thumbnails are aligned right as they should be.All 4 articles have {jathumbnail off} at the end. This seems to work fine unless Images and Links is used and the native sizes of the, for example, the first image is rather large. The {jathumbnail -off} tag, of course, removes any sizing an editor might have set in JCE while creating the article. Of course an Editor should resize the article to a more reasonable image width before uploading it, but Editors are not perfect:-) In my experience they may post dozens of articles without looking at the front end at all! This we can live with but the incorrect alignment of thumbs in category views is a bigger problem.
On the homepage, the JA Featured News module displays the 2nd image rather than the first except where there is only 1 image or I have set the first image URL in both intro and main boxes in Images and Links, e.g. in this article: http://217.199.187.59/tecsa.com/joomla25/index.php/industry-news/analogue-printing/15-kba-rapida-205-at-ellerhold-hits-the-100m-sheet-mark
Regardless of whether Images and Links are used or not, the JA News Pro module seems to show the first image. Is there a reason for this to be different from the behaviour in the Featured News module?
BTW. I emphatically agree with Hung Dinh’s warning that Teline IV is complex to set up. So far I have taken about 8 weeks and am still struggling to understand it! With Joomla 1.5 being phased out the pressure is on.
UPDATE: My host has now upped the memory limit to 256M 🙂

February 17, 2014 at 7:56 am #522977Hi Tim again,
http://217.199.187.59/tecsa.com/joomla25/index.php/industry-news/3d-printing
In this page, the thumbnail is working with the alignment and as I can see in the home page, the JA News Pro module is till displaying image from this 3D printing category fine: http://prntscr.com/2t95l1
So you can try to inseart image inside article content.Best

February 18, 2014 at 2:02 pm #523230Hi Saguaros,
I think you are agreeing that JA Thumbnail plugin works best if the images are setup in the content rather than in Images and Links. I have noticed that it also works best if the images have <div> tags rather than <p> tags around them in the content. I found this from the Teline IV sample data in Quickstart. I also noticed that whoever setup the demo did not use Images and Links and all sample images are in the content. http://www.joomlart.com/demo/#ja_teline_iv
Suggestions (for Teline V?)
- Option in Ja News Featured module to show 1st image
- Option in JA Thumbnail to hide captions on category views
- Option on JA Thumbnail to limit display of text by words/characters in category views for both leading and normal articles.
I have yet to fully test the JA News Pro module, but I’m sure I’ll find some odd behaviour 🙂
Thanks for your help.

February 19, 2014 at 2:42 am #523302Hi Tim,
The problem here is that JA Thumbnail plugin will get image added in article content. Joomla adds a new option called Images and Links where you can add intro image and full text image and modules like JA News Feature or JA News Pro module will get the intro image first. While adding image into content, module will not display the first image correctly as in your case.
PS. I will passed your suggestions to our development team for further consideration. Thanks for the heads up.
Best
