This is driving me insane. I’m trying to edit the logo for JA Mica. I’m trying to find a guide on how to do this, but I can’t find one on your site. Can someone tell me:
1. Which software should I use?
2. What file do I need to edit? I tried editing the logo.png with adobe fireworks, but the file is a bitmap so I can’t change the text.
2. Is it even possible to, for example, change the text JA MICA to something else, while keeping the same font?I’ve tried a template from another vendor and it was really easy to change the logo. All I had to do was open it up with fireworks, and all the info was right there. I could just click the text and change it to what I wanted. I would really appreciate some help! Thanks!
June 10, 2009 at 7:46 am #307491I forgot to add that I’ve also tried to edit the basic.psd file in the JA Mica source folder but it’s contains everything… how do I just edit the logo? Please bear with me since I’ve never done this stuff before. Thanks.

June 10, 2009 at 7:48 am #307492You need to first make a logo. If the size of the JA Mica logo is sufficient for you, find the logo image in your folders (something like templates/JA Mica/Images) and check the properties.
this should give you the size in pxiels.
Now you will know what size to make your logo.
Now you can make your logo in something like Photoshop (I use a free version called GIMP) or some other tool that allows you to create images.
You then have two choices:
1. Name your new logo “logo.png”, delete the JA Mica logo (also named “logo.png) and upload your new logo to the same file.
2. Name your logo something else, ie (newlogo.png) then upload it to the same images file as JA mica logo is in, and change CSS to reflect your new logo name.

June 10, 2009 at 7:56 am #307493I forgot to mention —
You can disable the image altogether and just have text if you like.In your backend, go to Extensions->Template Manager->JA Mica
From there select:
Logo type: TextThen you have the two fields below to add your text. You can change text colour if you want through css I believe.
June 10, 2009 at 8:04 am #307494Thank you very much for your reply. If I understand correctly then, all the source files provided with the joomlart templates are in bitmap format and so you can’t just “double click” on the letters (for example), and enter new text? That clears a lot of things up. I thought that I was just using the wrong software or something!

June 10, 2009 at 8:52 am #307499You are correct. With Joomla you have access to all the files that make up the template (hence the term, “open source”).
Joomla is not a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) template system. If you want to modify beyond the standard look and function of the template, you will need to learn to tweak some code. The beauty of it is that it is all there and completed for you to see.
BUT, you can make beautiful websites just from the standard templates, without changing much at all.
Last week I made this one in 1 day: http://www.maineventwebdesign.com
That is the standard JA Cooper template. All I added was some of my own images and a forms extension (JForms).
As friends have seen and heard about my old http://www.schoolyourpool.com site (made at Homestead — I don’t recommend if you plan on trying to get top-10 search rankings or adding a lot of content regularly) and the still-under-construction new design: http://www.sypfantasyhockey.com …well…people who know nothing suddenly think you are an expert (LOL!). Next thing I know I end up with a half dozen small businesses asking me to build them websites….!! Fortunately even with my own very limited abilities I can trump anything they have done up on their geocities or free webbuilder hosts. :p
