I know this is probably a joomla hardcoded problem but maybe someone can lead me into the direction how to change the value. thank you.

Open templates>ja_teline_ii>html>mod_search>default.php in a text editor

You will find 2 instances of

name="searchword" id="mod_search_searchword" maxlength="20" alt="'.$

Change the 20 as desired.
