    Hi there

You can create new themes and then apply them to each specific layout you want to create.

Take a look at the documentation HERE
Customization and override sections ( isolate template customization )

Thank you for such a speedy response. I’ve tried to follow that.. I think my confusion as a newbie is a step before this… I’m confused with whether I should be thinking TEMPLATES, STYLES or THEMES…

So I think my question really is, to use T3 BLANK TEMPLATE so that half of my site pages are BLUE and the other half are RED… should I be making 2 copies of the TEMPLATE via back-end template options, or its STYLE, or its THEME?

You can make 2 Themes then you can have 2 template styles each template with assigned a specific theme to it

Then assign the template style to the menu item

PERFECT. Thank you for sticking with me and helping me with this. WONDERFUL.

So anyone else following, a new custom.css file placed in local/css/themes/mynewcreatedtheme worked perfectly here (after I had created the new theme of course with a ‘Save As’ when using ThemeMagic in Joomla Back-end).
