    Hi
Off-canvas sidebar works when it’s enabled from the template options and a module is assigned to off-canvas module positions.
It does not open by default, it only works when u enable it and publish module on it.
Click on the button to open the off-canvas sidebar.
Here is documentation for menu system.

Thanks for the response, but I understand how it works.
    Let me rephrase.
Is there a way to have a menu item trigger the off canvas menu instead (or in addition to) the usual three line icon? Of instance, I want to put user related info in the off-canvas menu, and on the main menu I want to have a link that says ‘user menu’ that when clicked the off-canvas opens.

    Hi
You can publish any module on the off-canvas position and it will appear when u open the off-canvas position.

I’m afraid I’m not being clear.

I want the off canvas menu to open when I click on a menu item in the main menu. How do I do this?

    Hi
This needs custom work in PHP and js files. For you try to download JA Resume template and check how its working on that, you can find the php files header.php and js in the script.js file that is used for this work.
And then define the code in the JA Company template.

    Regards
