I have the code for google analytics, where do I install/ I tried the template folder/index.php, but there is no body tags.

A very easy way to apply Google Analytics to Joomla sites is by installing JAnalytics plugin. Do a web search for it. Once you download and install it to your site, you just enter in the Google Analytics code in the module, just as you would any other module. It does everything from there automatically. No code to screw around with.
