Hi ejoomart1,

Did you click on the install demo content on the last page of installation of quickstart? Also which template quickstart did you try?

Hello:

“Did you click on the install demo content on the last page of installation of quickstart? Also which template quickstart did you try?”

– No, I have not seen ‘Install Demo Content” I don’t know where this is.
– I do not know where the Installation page is or how to access it.
– I extracted all files in the Quickstart and uploaded the files I could see in Quickstart via ftp over the original Joomla! install.
– Per Instructions, the Installation folder had been deleted.
– The Template Quickstart is for JA Seleni.
– This install is with GoDaddy.
Thank you for your help.

Thats not the way to install the quickstart. You extract the files in folder and call that folder from the url. Look at this guide… its for installing quickstart on localhost… but the basics are same..

Thank you Arvind:
– This apparent process is not what I expected in atypical Joomla Template Install.
– It is frustrating that the template does not come with an installation manual that covers this.
– Are you saying that XXAMP is required to do this? This seems very strange but I will follow the directions.
– It is late here now. I will do as you say tomorrow.
– I hope you will check this thread; I will post my findings-success or failures. Thank you.

its for installing quickstart on localhost… but the basics are same..

I said above, the basics are same. You unzip in folder and call the folder from the frontend to start the online joomla installation.

– I extracted all files in the Quickstart and uploaded the files I could see in Quickstart via ftp over the original Joomla! install.

That is wrong.

Now read the below lines carefully.

1. Quickstart is nothing but joomla with added demo content.
2. If you know how to install joomla on a webserver (Not using fantastico script). You can install quickstart the same way.
3. Overwriting its files over a already installed joomla is not going to work. Not sure, who told you to do that.
4. 90% of demo content is in the database. So, a complete fresh installation is must if you want to use it. The remaining 10% of demo content are images, which are also installed in correct folders if you perform the installation.

So, install quickstart as you would install joomla.

– OK, Ill redo this tomorrow Arvind.
– Sounds like I must uninstall what is already there and redo this.
I have not done a database and folder uninstall on a web server before.
– I’ve done only 1 Joomla install to a web server from scratch which went well.
– This one (the second) initially installed from GoDaddy auto install before I found this nice template.
It’s all education with result so I am happy to try. Thank you for your help.

Thanks,

Glad you got the point. On a personal note, i never recommend using auto installers, one should install manually. I shall make a video tutorial for this in the next few days for sure… many new users get carried away by auto installers. Its not about the ease, its about learning.

Dear Arvind:
I did as you said.
-Prior DB- deleted from web server.
– Prior Files- deleted from web server.
– Un packed Quickstart files to a new folder for ftp
– Created new DB on webserver
– Uploaded all Quickstart files to web server.
– Performed Installation process.
Success!
Website displaying as it should.
Many Thanks to you.
By the way- I agree with you as far as manual installation: I just thought I would try the automated way, but this I will not do again.
Now I can develop this site. Very nice. I appreciate your help.

I installed the quickstart for corona through the ftp. What do I do now? What does it mean to: “Start installation by typing your URL to the quickstart that you have uploaded?” Does that mean to just type in my domain name?

Yes, if you uploaded the files to your hostings root then just browse to the url. If you uploaded to a subfolder then browse to that. Then follow through the installer as you would any normal Joomla install not forgetting to press the “Install sample data” button near the end. Make sure you have all your mysql database details to hand before you start.

Thanks Phil! What does “make sure you have all your mysql databse details to hand before you start.” mean? I don’t have anything right now.

The mysql database details you would get from your host. Most of the information and content of any Joomla website is stored in a database. For Joomla to create and connect to that database you will need to enter those details in the form that appears during the install. The only people that can give you those details are your host.

Forget about the ftp details on the page after that, just hit next.

*edit – You replied with your second question while I was responding. Again, speak to your host for support on where to place the instal files. All hosts are different and if you put all the extracted files in the incorrect place then you will struggle to browse to them.

Yes, as mentioned above- got it handled. Thank you.

I am having a new “issue”- when I create. jpg’s in Photoshop CS3 Extended to the exact size that comes with this template, the jpg’s are somehow over doubled in size and hence don’t fit as they should. I have no idea what is going on. I haven’t found any knowledge base on this either. For example: a .jpg that is 288 x 80 in Photoshop when uploaded to this site, the. jpg becomes 528 x 140.

Anyone have an idea about this?

Thank you!

Please could you start a new thread for that issue in the forum for whatever template you are using. This thread is for quickstart issues. It makes it hard for us to track individual problems with so many in one thread.
