After uploading the upzipped quickstart folder to my godaddy hosting account I attempted to install using directory from my joomla extension manager. Below is the error message I am receiving. Could someone please help me with this? Thanks!
Error! Could not find a Joomla! XML setup file in the package. Path does not have a valid package.

October 23, 2010 at 8:17 am #360192Please re-read the above. This is a complete Joomla install. It is not a package you install from joomla. The quickstart package is meant to install Joomla along with all our custom work in one go and will not work if you try to add it to an existing Joomla install. Please take some time to reat the full instructions on the first post of this thread.

October 23, 2010 at 3:43 pm #360221Oh!! let me try that! I thought it was after. Must have misunderstood. Thank you!
October 23, 2010 at 4:05 pm #360222Thanks Phil. I got it taken care of. I just installed the template separately on top of the joomla that was already installed. Thanks!
October 23, 2010 at 4:13 pm #360223I did the same as georgeyou. . .fixed now though. Thanks so much!

October 23, 2010 at 6:39 pm #360243It is probably the most common mistake people make with the quickstart and I’m sure it will continue to be. Don’t forget to install the JAT3 plugin too if you are using one of the more recent templates.
I will suggest that we add a readme in the quickstart folder to give advice on the use of the quickstart.
October 24, 2010 at 4:20 pm #360332What happens if you don’t delete the joomla installation folder after it’s been installed? I wonder if that’s why I’m having issues.

October 24, 2010 at 4:28 pm #360333You m,ust delete it or the installation will not work for security reasons. I tend to just rename it until I have finished testing then remove it later on.
October 31, 2010 at 7:17 am #361161I’ve been working on installing the JA Portfolio template via the quickstart files all night, and I can’t get it to work. Uploading the .zip file to my host (iPage) is no problem. Unzipping the files also works fine. The problem comes when I navigate to the URL to begin the install. The first 2 or 3 times, I got the first page of the Joomla installation dialogue, where I pick the install language. However, when I went to the next page, I got an error saying that cookies are not enabled on my browser (they are), or alternatively, there was a problem with some file or folder with my host. Sorry, I can’t recall the name of that file or folder, and can’t get back to that screen now. I suspected that the problem might be with IE, so I switched over to Firefox, but got the exact same error at the same spot. I deleted all of the files, and re-unzipped the quickstart package, and got the same results several times.
Then things got worse. After getting the above error part way through the Joomla install a few times, I instead started getting an error immediately when I would navigate to the URL. The Joomla install routine wouldn’t start up at all, and I instead got the following error:
The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request.
The script had an error or it did not produce any output. If there was an error, you should be able to see it in the error log.There is no error log that I can find, so that is no help. Now, I have tried just about everything I can think of to get around this. I have tried:
1) installing to a new subdirectory–same problem;
2) navigating directly to the /installation/index.php file, or to the installation subdirectory, instead of the root–same problem;
3) re-downloading the quickstart file, re-uploading it to my host, and re-unzipping it, probably something like 10 times now–problem persists;
4) installing joomla on the host site first, then deleting all of the files, then unzipping the quickstart–same problem. I tried this because the host allows you to install Joomla through it’s interface, so I thought maybe that something needed to be “turned on” by installing Joomla through the interface first, but it made no difference–same problem;
5) something like 10 other things I can’t even remember now, but I keep getting the exact same error over and over before the Joomla installation dialogue even begins.Anybody have any ideas?

November 2, 2010 at 9:33 pm #361438Hi,
Both quickstarts are not like demo. Also JA K2 Search & Filter Module and JA Showcase Component are not in quickstarts and not in downloads. Please let me know where can I download a quickstart that looks like demo with house search, etc. Also the above extensions.
Thanks
November 3, 2010 at 3:10 am #361451Well, unzipping the quickstart locally and then uploading it eventually ended up working. It took me about 2 days to get it all uploaded due to repeated FTP errors, etc. Now I am at least able to get the Joomla install to run, but I’m having other problems. Unfortunately, 3 posts to the forums over the past 3 weeks have resulted in zero responses, so I’m going to give up on the forums as a method for getting timely support.

I;m in my Joomla installl and a page and it is asking (see yellow highlighted areas in the attached image) for the database info. So what do I enter?

That is database connection information. If you are on localhost, the username often is “root”. You should read the description text besides input boxes for detail.
February 11, 2011 at 4:27 am #376108hi, im new to joomlart. i cant seem to find an answer to my problem. ive been trying to install quickstart for few days with no luck. what i want to achieve is to install an actual site similar to the demo so i can just change the content on the modules/contents.
my host is hostmonster and i already uploaded the extracted quickstart files, created database in mysql. i installed joomla using simplescript with sample data on. im getting the sample data of joomla and not like the demo site.
im having a hard time to setup the modues, tabs, etc. one by one thats why i want to load the default pyro demo site.
thanks i hope i can solve this soon.

February 11, 2011 at 5:02 am #376117Hi reuelc,
I am not sure if i understand this correctly
<blockquote>
i installed joomla using simplescript with sample data on.</blockquote>PM me your hosting panel access and the folder where you want to install. I shall check and install if for you and tell you what you missed.
accessing the folder (where quickstart files are unzipped) from web url and then following the normal joomla installation steps and then pressing the “install sample data” button on the last step (where it asks for admin password and email), should give you the demo site.Arvind
