Hi,
I usually dread adding templates via quickstart because it means five hours or more on the PC trying to figure out what to do after following the instructions.Today, I tried another quickstart, for JA ZinC and after removing the installation directory, I received the following error:
Not Found
The requested URL /installation/index.php was not found on this server.Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
What does it mean? This happened after I removed the installation directory, but I get the error saying that installation/index.php isn’t found.January 22, 2009 at 3:30 pm #287666Quickstart is misleading.
I’ve uploaded files, but there has to be a step missing in the instructions.
How do I reinstate my database tables for my content to show?
Also, after unzipping and uploading all the files, and installing, I removed the Joomla installation directory, and then I have the following error:Not Found
The requested URL /installation/index.php was not found on this server.Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
What gives?
If it is going to take me more than 6 hours to try and fix something, is there a point of having a membership here?

January 22, 2009 at 4:28 pm #287670what is needed is a better tutorial as your all having issues when there are no problems at all with the quickstarts. I install quickstarts all the time with no errors or issues and they only take be about 10 minutes. Your all missing or messing up a step. what that step is I do not know. So Hung, how about a step by step video on how to install, starting with the download of the zip file, unzipping it and extracting the quickstart and step by step from there.
Also, one thing that JA cannot account for is poor hosting services with proprientary hosting architecture. As many members go for the cheapest posible, many of the issues could be the host itself. For instance, at godaddy, for the MySql host you don’t use localhost, you need to get the address of the MySql database server that your site is hosted on.
So even if they did a better tutorial, it would not cover all those cheap hosts proprietary setups, you would still be on your own in many cases.
But I think a video of how to set up a quickstart on a reliable host, one using cpanel, one using plesk, and using joomlaXplorer/XTplorer and several different FTP programs, such as cute and filezilla, although labor intensive for JA, would help tremendously.

This looks like you removed the installation directory before running the setup. After the upload of files did you go to the url and fill in the forms for the setup of the quickstart. Or… did you just upload the files and then removed the installation folder.
After you unzip the files and folders on the server, you just go to your domain
http://www.mydomain.com
and start filling in the blanks and start making your setup selectionsJanuary 22, 2009 at 8:46 pm #287684<em>@mj1256 107569 wrote:</em><blockquote>This looks like you removed the installation directory before running the setup. I filled in the forms, and was prompted to remove the installation directory. When I removed it, then I’d get the error.
In summary though,
I installed the files to via Filezilla onto my server.
I visited the url, to go through the Joomla installation.
I filled in the forms.
Was prompted to remove the directory.
* I removed the directory from the server by deleting while I was in filezilla (I didn’t go to the CP panel via my host, but I also tried doing it that way on another attempt, to have the same error).January 23, 2009 at 2:34 am #287720I agree that this shouldn’t be that tough but for some reason I’m also having problems.
I did the following.
– Uploaded the zip file to my server using my ftp software
– Used Cpanel to extract the files to my www directory
– Pointed my browser to http://www.mysite.comUnfortunately I got the following error:
Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@mysite.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Yep, public_html = www .
January 23, 2009 at 1:31 pm #287823Update:
It was a permissions issue. The host (hostgator) had to run a script to set folders to 755 and files to 644. Once they did that everything installed fine.
They could offer no explination why the permissions got set to what they did when I did the extract using cPanel though.

January 23, 2009 at 7:01 pm #287867I have over 40 sites on hostgator with no issues at all and their joomla support is excellent
I never had a permissions issue with hostgator, but be aware, they use PHPsuexec on their servers, so 777 is not allowed
also, public_html = www . is wrong, sorry, you should have two separate directories
I was just pointing it out as it is a common problemiwankumara Friendiwankumara

January 27, 2009 at 5:34 am #288389Hi Hainn84
What is Quickstart anyway? is it how to install your template with full extension in it exactly like your demo or just to install Joomla?
I try to do the first one, because the templates downloaded from Joomlart are not inserted with the extension like demos. So we have to install and configure them by our selves. And it makes us dizzy and frustrated with some extension that not works properly like your demo.
Please adviceIwan kumara

A quickstart is a complete site just like the demo of the template it includes the sql to auto populate the db and add the modules etc you must tick the “Install Sample Data” when the installer asks for it to achieve this. There are many tutorials on how to install a quickstart or ask we will guide you

January 27, 2009 at 3:14 pm #288468I’m not sure if I’m the only one that’s been experiencing this, but I’ve been trying to install the quick start package for this template on my server and I continue to get the exact same message. “Unale to extract archive file, files are corrupted”. Please advise….any help is appreciated.
