January 28, 2009 at 4:57 pm #288676renegades the best thing to do is re-download it and try again. You install the quickstart with the exact same procedures as installing a Joomla site. Just remember that the quickstart includes Joomla so you can’t place it in or over an existing Joomla.
Shannon I was just thinking yesterday that a video detailing the QS install would be a good idea. There are questions everyday about how to install it. Maybe we could make a new one and various members could translate it to other languages.
Although, there are several videos of Joomla installs on Youtube and it is really exactly the same. It’s just a matter of convincing n00bs of this.
January 28, 2009 at 6:24 pm #288693Because GoDaddy offers 1-click updates of Joomla, I always use their installation. Wanting to be certain I got a good install of Mesolite (after a failed first attempt), I uploaded the quickstart zip through the cPanel and unzipped. Both are 1.5.8. Is there any reason this might blow-up on me?

Yeah I’d redo the one I did on JSAS but then I’d get “I need one to suit company xxx cpanel”, or “I have a diff quickstart will it work the same way”, or “I don’t want to install locally” etc.
ppl here want handholding to the extreme at times. That’s the problem with Joomla in general, it’s so good almost anyone can grab a template and make a decent site.
I remember someone here once saying when told they need to learn some basics at least . . . “why learn anything about Joomla, css or modding graphics, I only want one site ever and brought the template to do it, now the support should teach me how to do it all, I’ve paid my $xx”
LIke where does it stop? if serious new users (wanting to become Web Designers) can’t be bothered to read up on their hosting cpanel use, basics of Joomla and what a CMS is, how to use PS or Fireworks to mod graphics should they be thinking of making web sites at all 🙂
I had to buy books, guides etc in conjunction with forum help to get (what little) skills needed, sometimes it just seems ppl dont want to pay or take time. its the buy a cool template shove it on a free or $2 obscure non standard host and ring all their mates and say “look at me I’m now a Web Designer” :pMaybe JA should sell e-books on how to “Install a QS, How to modify headers in PS etc”
Hey guys there’s a money making exercise, Let’s make videos and e-books on how to each template … oops that’s right everyone wants it for free cause they paid a tiny sum for a membership and want it all spelled out for them. Hee Hee
Cheers Shannon
January 29, 2009 at 10:41 pm #288889HELP!!
Hello. I purchased the developer membership and want to use the JA NERINE template on my site (http://www.imediacorp.com). I want it to look just like it does on the demo site and them use the admin to modify to my own content.
I have a previous installation of Joomla 1.5 with sample data. I uploaded and unzipped the quickstart for JA Nerine and that worked fine. However, when I browse the site, the installer does not come up. All I get is the message to delete the installation directory. Then when I delete the installation directory, the modules and menus are all using the old data so nothing looks like it’s supposed to. How can I get it to reinstall from scratch? Do I have to delete the old database info?

You have a file called configuration.php in root, delete it and the installation process should start

Thanks so much! It worked perfectly. However, I found that when you unzip the file, configuration.php is removed and configuration.php.dist is left. I deleted it and the installation proceeded.Peace!

January 30, 2009 at 2:07 am #288902ShannonN, i was the guy talking to godaddy
they abandoned the project as they discovered that they we so noncompliant and functions worked so poorly, that they were looking at an infrastructure do-over. That is not going to happen. So they will just continue on their merry way. even google has issues with their noncompliancy and has cancelled agreements with them.
Thats a good thing as it gives the hosting solutions that do have good architecture, compliancy, and charge more, more value as they can be compared to what 8 dollars a month really buys.
January 30, 2009 at 4:25 am #288911I think not to confuse yourself so just delete all the files and folders from your public_html and start from scratch. You need not to delete your mysql database. Just upload the quickstart zip package and extract after uploading into your site. Remember there should be no files or folders left before unzipping the quickstart zip package. After unzipping go to your webbrowser and type your domain name the installtion will start. After the installation is over and when the system ask you to delete the installation directory. Donot delete the installation directory just rename it to install_ . thats it .. you are ready with your site

January 30, 2009 at 8:48 am #288925I just want to say a quick word about Quickstart. I already had an installation of Joomla on my site through my hosting account. Nothing was going quite right. I decided to delete that installation and install myself using the Quickstart file.
I have VERY slow internet so it took 4 hours to do the installation, but the end result was worth the time and effort!! Following the instructions carefully and taking your time with the install pays off with perfect results.
This was a PERFECT installation!!!
Thank you so much for creating this Quickstart install file! I will definately recommend this to friends.

February 25, 2009 at 1:03 am #2933056) go to you URL, the installation screenshould be there
Hi – I loved your instructions, up to this point.
What is that supposed to mean? I went to the INSTALL.php and it gave me ‘restricted access’
I put index.php (plus my site name) and it did the install, but the first time teline II did not install, and the 2nd time teline II is installed, but only the standard joomla front page comes up, even after making teline II the default.
I think that people don’t know what we new people don’t know.
Magic please.
March 4, 2009 at 6:36 pm #294448OK, I have been trying to figure out the “quick start” all morning. It seems I have to delete my current Joomla installation and then re-install with the Quick start.
What if we already have articles and categories and we just want to get the theme up and running?
What if I want to try another Joomart theme — I have to once again re-install Jooma from the start? Why don’t you have a quick start just for the theme, without making us re-instal Joomla? I don’t get it! Totally confused!!
I’m a new customer to Joomart, and I was hoping to buy the themes and have a relatively easy time getting them running.
Not a good start for this customer!
Please help me figure this all out.
