Well if you prefer you can choose to install the template manually (and the modules). But if you dont have much knowledge about how to do this the quickstart would be the way to go.
Even tho there is a good tuturial on how to do a manual installation of the template (so you keep all your articles etc) you do need some standard joomla basics.
Wouldnt think it is wise to install a new template on a live site, would be better to install a development site.
Looks like you want the best of both worlds wich is simply not possible, not here and not in other template clubs either for that matter.
If you need help on how to install things or are stuck somewhere then it is wise to start a new thread.

quickstart is easy ppl just don’t know enough about Joomla and what it is can do etc the qs (quickstart) is 1 template plus all the data that is the ja demo site, plus joomla, what part of that can’t newbies understand?
if you install the qs plus data you install joomla as well thats the way its designed, if you have joomla installed just use the admin backend to load the required template only. and then go through all the dramas of setting up modules slideshows galleries articles etc
The qs is designed to get a complete template and data up as a full working site ( same as appears as demo of that template by JA, this was a feature requested long ago to save all newbies (which we all were at one stage) from going insane trying to emulate the demos, it includes a sql dump to populate the db with all module positions and content with whatever special modules activated and working so the customer doesn’t have to go through a process of
1. install Joomla ( usually at a cheap host via fantastico method that creates a database with a name based on domain name in use at time if I remember back years? ok
2. upload a template via the joomla admin backend management system
3. get really frustrated trying to turn on and off and publish to the modules needed to ( in most cases) emulate the JA demo of the preferred template
4. realise that the cheap host fantastico method isn’t the latest (or near latest) version of Joomla, and template don’t want to work well etc etc
5. try to activate special features like JA news module, galleries etc etcInstalling a qs is so simple, far easier than you think unless you have some obsure hosting system and use godaddy 🙂 if as you say you have articles etc just upoload teh template no biggie, then you have to just re position articles etc to suit the new templates module positions as each template differs you have the choice template or demo site with content.
In summary
If you want 1 or more templates on a site testing etc install joomla then install each template you want, select from template manager which template to useIf you want full demo site of that template with sample datea installed ready to pick about and modify (good for learning) have an ’empty site’ ( no joomla installed) and use quickstart paying special attn to ‘Install sample data’ = yes
Nearly all ppl develop offline using a WAMP such as JSAS or Xaamp get the site working how they want it then just ftp the whole thing up to there host as a completed working site, the qs method is extremely helpful in training, teaching in this offline environment.
More info on WAMPs, JSAS XAAMP etc a google is faster than I can explain 🙂I hope this address’s some confusion and gives you keywords to search for further info on

I want this to work, I really do! I really like Joomlart themes, and I especially want to use Teline. It’s just been a little frustrating today that’s all.
Hopefully, this will all make sense soon!

You have picked the hardest most bug ridden template to start with read the threads teline 1 and 2 have so many unresolved issues, pick something easier to get acquainted with and learn first to save searching years of forum posts for unanswered questions 😀 You have picked the hardest most bug ridden template to start with read the threads teline 1 and 2 have so many unresolved issues, pick something easier to get acquainted with and learn first to save searching years of forum posts for unanswered questionsI got bored and have made a video tutorial of a quickstart install to my local hard drive that should give you enough clues to do the same on your host server not much difference
I’ll, post a link as soon as I upload to screencast.comMarch 5, 2009 at 11:26 am #294558ShannonN,
I am sorry to hear that Teline and Teline II are bug-ridden! Yes, I saw the forum posts about these templates, but I figured they were no worse than other ones!!The problem is, the look of Teline is just what I need for the online magazine I want to create.
Last night, I did manage to get the Quick Start working, although I had problems with some of the files not making it through or missing during the installation, which I had to manually stick in the correct directories. But now I have a functioning Teline II site with the sample data.
Well, I guess I’ll take a look at other templates.
What are the chances that the bugs in Teline will be fixed soon?
Thanks,

MatthewHi Matthew
While members have often been forced to make their own solutions to these problems, there still remain a lot to do, and with JA wasting time and resources on other ventures and NOt concentrating on templates 😉 given T 1 and T2 are already done out there etc I don’t think they’ll bother fixing Jack!as someoone pointed out only 32 % of posts here in the teline II thread have been answered, guess that tells you how interested JA really in in this template?
Glad to hear you have a working site is that on your web server or local host? If not on local host PM me and I’ll explain the process of setting one up etc saves time and bandwidth
Cheers ShannonN

ah..don.t worry i dont want to increase my post count.
have a look http://www.htv.lkMarch 6, 2009 at 3:39 pm #294692Good Morning,
Just so everyone knows, I have experience running Web sites and dealing with databases. My issues are with the particular ways that this template works, and the lack of clear instructions for using it.Before paying for a membership, I was under the impression that these themes are polished. Seems they are not.
I should be clear: I have a site up, but it contnues to have a lot of problems using Teline and Teline II. I’m not going to post about all the problems here, as the managers of this site are not responding to the ones I already posted.
Anyway, I just put in an order to cancel my account with Joomlart. Since I am within the seven-day trial period, I expect a refund.
I’m very disappointed.

Please give some more information.
What steps did you take, and it went wrong at step nr.?
Without information it could be anything.

March 13, 2009 at 4:50 pm #295803For example, did you get through the ftp step in the install OK? It sounds like you are not getting through that part.

March 13, 2009 at 9:57 pm #295862Hi guys
I created a new database in my domain control panel.
I then went to the File Manager in the CP and uploaded the Quickstart zip file.
When this had uploaded I unzipped it by right clicking on it.
This then opened many files.
I then typed my domain into a browser and it gave the permission error message :((
What am i doing wrong??
