The kunena template that comes with the JA Social package won’t install via kunena template installer or joomla’s extention installer?

    any ideas?

    Hi,

You just have to upload ( maybe you should unzip the file first if your host doesn’t support the option to unzip files on the server ) and upload the files to
    /components/com_kunena/template/ja_social

    OR . . . . . .

You could start over utilizing the quickstart + sample data installation process – which installs the Kunena component FOR you.

    😎

(Sorry Manos . . . not trying to step on your toes … just wanted to point the other alternative out) 🙂

thanks for the replies. I never use quickstarts for client’s websites. too full of junk data and useless database tables.

I’m using kunena 1.7 and it couldn’t find the xml file. I’m guessing it’s because of the deeply nested directory structure (the way it was packaged). I’ll upload through cPanel and see how that goes and also modify the package just in case.

thanks for the quick responses especially on a sunday.

any update on this? i’m also now running Joomla 1.7 and cannot “re”install the Kunena template? I did use the quick install file but i had to migrate from phpbb3 forum to kunena so i lost the one that came with ja_social for the one that came with the Kunena Importer.

another question is why does the template is missing that important installation file? is it because the template is for joomla 1.6 only and will not work on 1.7? any probable if not the correct and exact reason for this?

    thanks in advance.

i installed the template as suggested by pascm then set it as a default in the Kunena template panel. However, when I clicked on the template for some more settings, it says Parameters are unwriteable though I can click the drop-down menu to the left of the page. I did not bother to change these.

Nevertheless, when I checked on the frontend, the Kunena template that came with ja_social seems to be working fine as of this typing. 🙂

Hi this is a permission issue you most probably try by setting the folders to CHmod 755 and files to CHMOD 644. Also an other thing you must check is if you (*as a user on your hosting account) are the owner of the files, if not you should ask your host to CHOWN on your account for all files.

    Thank you Manos.

I am actually running my websites on a virtual private server so I own everything. I’m new to linux administration though so i have much to learn. I thought of those permission issues but again did not bother to CHMOD the folders/files because the kunena template packaged with ja_social is working fine after i uploaded it.

Thank you just the same for your reply. I do appreciate your willingness to provide relevant information to help others.
