Hi

I am using Joomla 3.0.3, K2 v2.6.5 and JA K2 Filter for Joomla 2.5/3.0 v1.0.4.

On the website I have K2 items that I want to make searchable with the module and K2 items that do not need to appear in the search results.
I do NOT want to display the K2 categories as part of the search option in the module so the solution to ‘Enable the Filter by Category’ will NOT work for me.
I am only using the K2 Filter and search module to search K2 items that have certain extra field values.
No filter by Keyword (disabled)
No filter by category (disabled)
No filter by Author (disabled)

I expect that the module only looks for the K2 items that are associated with the Extra Fields that I have selected.
This means that I expect that, if I run a ‘blank’ search in the module (a search where all the criteria are empty) then the K2 items that are NOT associated with these extra fields should NOT appear in the results for such a search.

Unfortunately this is not the case and when I run a ‘blank’ search then ALL the K2 items appear in the search results, even if they are are NOT associated with the Extra field.

This used to be possible with older version of the module (JA K2 Filter for Joomla 1.5 v1.0.5, K2 v2.6.1 and Joomla 1.5.26) as seen on this example: http://singapore.lmbhousing.com/.

I think the behavior in the old version was that if a K2 item was not linked to any of the Extra Fields declared in the JA K2 filter and search module then it will not show up in the search result even if a ‘blank’ search (a search where all the criteria are empty) is done.

The new version of the module has apparently lost this functionality.
Am I missing something?
Can you help me with this?

Thanks.

Hi lmbhousing_2,

Old version of extension, it used as plugin search of joomla. In new version, we’re using k2 layout for search result. So, 2 versions are completely different.

I think you mean : when you disable filter by category, it still does limited search of the categories you choose?

If it is, it is updated in svn and waiting release (@rsystems : its not released yet, because we have a serious error that is still open for fixing. )

I’ll try to update you soon.

Please spend some time on this beautiful plugin, that is unfortunately missing 2-3 basic functionalities 🙁

– Limit results

– Change search results display / layout options

Hi,

when you disable filter by category, it still does limited search of the categories you choose?

This will probably also do the trick so I’ll be OK with this option.

That being said (and for the records) I still believe that the default behavior should be that the module only looks for the K2 items that are associated with the Extra Fields that have been selected in the search filter.

In other words, If I want to use the K2 Filter and search module to search only for K2 items that have certain extra field values.
Then if I run a ‘blank’ search (a search where all the criteria are empty) I expect the plugin to limit the search result to only the K2 items that are associated with these extra fields.
A K2 item that is NOT associated with any of the extra fields that I have selected when I configured the module should NOT appear in the results for a blank search with this module.

Thanks for working on this.

Hi,

Thanks for working on this, any idea on when this functionality will be included?

We need this info to decide if we wait or if we try to find some other alternative.

Thanks

Hi Franck,

Yeah, we raised this featured into this product backlog and will update it in the future.
You could follow the status of it via http://pm.joomlart.com/browse/JAK2FILTER-54

Thanks

Excellent, thanks!

FYI
The workaround that we’ll use to circumvent the problem (until this functionality is implemented) is to use K2 only for content that have the extra fields that I need to filter on.
For all other content I will use the core Joomla content component (articles). Not ideal of course but good enough for the site that needs this functionaltity.

I’ll keep an eye on the tracker, thanks for the link.

Best
