I feel like this question should have been easy to answer with a web or forum query, but I haven’t been able to get what I need.

    • I am running Joomla! 1.5.14 Stable [ Wojmamni Ama Naiki ] 30-July-2009 23:00 GMT/
    • I am using the supplied ja_purity template without deliberate modifications
    • The website is http://www.btee.org/rload1.5/index.php .

On the front page of my website (top of the content area) is a module with a custom location, and a banner loaded in that custom location. When you click on the banner, it brings up another window with a PDF file in it.

What I want to do is have a click on the banner bring up an overlay window on the same webpage, like you get on the administrator side when you adjust parameters for a component. I think that is called a Spotlight and Spotlight support appears to be built into the ja_purity template. I don’t think there is software to buy or download since the capability already exists on the administrator side, but I can’t figure out what to do to make it happen.

I have several other places where I would like to use the same functionality. So, here are my questions:

    1. Is Spotlight the tool I need to use to accomplish what I want?
    2. Is there something I need to download or buy to use the tool?
    3. Assuming I change the PDF to a JPG, what do I do in my banner module to create this effect?
    4. Are there general instructions somewhere, saying how to create the effect I want?

    Thanks for your consideration.

Searching the Internet is all about using the correct terms. My post got tagged with “pop over”, which gave me new searches and led to an alternate approach. You can see what I implemented by looking at the “Sisterhood” banner at the top of the page at btee.org.

I implemented slimbox and followed the directions for integration with Joomla that I found at http://www.scribd.com/doc/2299983/Joomla-v-15-Slimbox-in-your-Joomla-Website, together with the information at http://www.digitalia.be/software/slimbox.

For those who might follow the linked directions, you will have to edit the PHP embedded code. The variable used to access the base URL has changed.

I still want to find out about Spotlight.
