March 11, 2013 at 10:56 pm #185737Here comes probably a stupid question:
JA Extension Manager is absolutely not easy to upgrade. Especially for Joomla! 3.0.
I am generally making changes in the templates in the following ways:
– Extend the CSS (write my own stuff to make it fit like I want);
– Change or add overwrites (in the html folder);
– Change the code in blocks of T3;However, when using JA Extension Manager (it is very user unfriendly and in J3 looks horrible), it not only doesn’t merge the changes, but it also deletes my own added style (I prefer to add own style, instead of modifying existing) or any files I add. With every new version of a template, I am loosing the changes and need to reapply manually.
There should be an easier way to not loose my changes and still apply the updates (i.e. merge the files)?
I suggested some time ago to have the option to add a override.css file, which is not touched by the template (i.e. could be in the media folder) during the update. Same could be done for example for the block and html/overwrite files.However, I would like to hear any suggestion on upgrading and merge of changes that doesn’t cost one week each time a new version of a template comes out.
Regards,

March 12, 2013 at 10:35 pm #486225But the file is also overwritten during update?
Suggestion, add in the default custom.css BY DEFAULT a CSS import of media/template/ja_whatever/custom.css
That way, when I create my css file in the media folder (not affected by template updates), the update will be really easy!Saguaros ModeratorSaguaros

March 13, 2013 at 1:38 am #486238Hi again,
Thanks for your idea, but when updating template, you can refuse to overwrite the custom.css file since we don’t update CSS code in this file by default. We provide that custom.css file for you guys add your own custom.

No, with the Joomla! installer I can’t choose which files to update and which not.
I also don’t see such option in the JA Extension Manager?!?Saguaros ModeratorSaguaros

March 18, 2013 at 2:50 am #486770Dear VisiGod,
You can check out help & support section of JAEM component in backend of your template: administrator/index.php?option=com_jaextmanager&view=default&layout=help_support.
When clicking to check the update, if new version exists, there will be 3 links there: Change log – Compare – Upgrade Now.
You can click on ‘Compare’ link to see the comparision between versions.

January 28, 2014 at 9:25 pm #520283Also, it’s generally a good idea to have your site backed up offline somewhere, especially your custom images and custom.css files. That way when you do an update, if something gets overwritten, you can just FTP it over and POW, you’re back to where you want to be.
