Using the JA Teline II template, I am attempting to publish a news site. My inspiration is the NY Times website (http://www.nytimes.com)

On this site, an article can be in more than one category/section.
For example, it might be found under World and Business.
I am interested in everyone’s opinion on how to duplicate such a structure given Joomlas one to many structure (instead of many to many).

Do I simply clone the article and place it in more than one category/section?
    This seems extremely inefficient.

Do I install some sort of Tag plugin and somehow use the tags to replace the category/section structure? All thoughts, opinions and advice are welcome and appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Kevin

I think this is more of a Joomla! funcitonality rather than a template issue.

Yes, from what you’ve explained you will need to “clone” the article and publish it to the correct categories/sections.

I’m not saying that it is not possible to do (unless you’re very efficient at hacking the core joomla files), but it may be worth registering a request at Joomla!’s forums (http://forums.joomla.org) where the developers can actually see that this is something users would like.

You may find an extension that does what you require at http://extensions.joomla.org – however, you may or may have to pay for something that does what you require.

Last but not least, if you can’t find anything that suits your requirements and you have some cash available, you might be able to recruit a joomlancer (http://www.joomlancers.com) that can customize your website.

Hope this helps. I know it’s not the actual answer to your problem but as mentioned before, it’s an actual Joomla! functionality issue.
