How do I get the Front Page to publish more (and maybe all) of an article in the JA News feature box?

    benbrook,

What happens if you have a 100-page article? You have a mile long page. 🙂 I am not sure anyone can answer your question without seeing your site and what sort of articles you have. If you have only 100-500 character articles no problem.

Just don’t do a “Read more” break or page break. However, whatever you do, your layout in the Section or Category will be terrible, if your articles have different lengths, unless you have a one-column intro page for the sections or categories.

Familiarize yourself with the JA New FrontPage menu.

administrator => extension => Modules => JA News FrontPage => click to get menu

Play with the numbers there. It is a complex interplay of the total number of characters you allow and the “Read more” break that determines what appear in the JA News frontpage module. You can set a higher number in the box where it asks you how many characters you want to appear in the feature article(s) or the other articles. If you have a long article, make sure your “Read more” break will be at higher number than the total characters you want to appear in each article.

Thanks for taking the time to help. I completely understand what you are saying. Please note that I am shooting for the look found in the attachment. Notice that the top featured article is one article in two columns with the image at the top of the first column. I have not been working with Joomla very long and I have so much to learn. Thanks again for the tips.

    Hi benbrook,

We have all been there. The thing is we keep on learning.

I am not expert myself. In fact, I am one of those who ask a lo of questions here. Actually, someone came asking the same question before — in fact he wanted three columns, like some magazine formats.

It is not the same as you showed, but JA Opal has a two-column format for the main feature:

    JA Opal

I have not played with it yet, but see what happens if you add more text.

The Frontpage module of JA Opal is in zip format, so you can install it. I tried the reverse. Place the JA News FrontPage into the JA Opal.

Note that JA Opal is not a true news-magazine. It is easier to import the look of JA Opal into JA Teline II than export the news-magazine feature of Teline II into JA Opal.
