I just used the quickstart on my XAMPP then i choose light color, there are 2 unwanted blank spaces (see attached files)

That look like the contentslider module. Try setting up wide screen or default screen from your frontend Cpanel.

i set wide screen in the backend and removed the cpanel button in the fronend 🙂
