How can I remove the image description / sample image from the category/blog layout?
I would like to have only the image or no image shown in the category list.

Remove the caption of the image.
If you want the image to have a caption in the regular story, then duplicate all of the information (image and content) that you put BEFORE the page break…and place it AFTER the page break too. Then in your parameters turn OFF Show Intro Text.

Again the image BEFORE the page break must not have a caption in order for it not to appear in the blog layout.
