I think you did not understand the issue… not me. Just read the Joomla 1.5 roadmap, 3 years ago (!) and you will read that the goal was to be 100% multilingal.
Hard coding strings is a mistake. There is no other way to describe it. This thread would not even exist if the templates were respecting joomla 1.5 guidances. It makes no sens to have to remove or change a string by modifying the code. joomla 1.5 is not supposed to work that way.
It is that simple.
