February 11, 2013 at 8:04 pm #483107Hi,
My suggestion on this is take a full site backup, upgrade to Joomla 2.5.x using the build in function in Joomla and then upgrade all your plugins and modules etc.
As for any custom modifications if you have them on a seperate css file etc i don’t think you will face problems migrating those also.
Regards

February 14, 2013 at 8:27 pm #483472In the back end of my website, on Extension Manager–Update page, I clicked Purge Cache and clicked find updates. But there is no joomla update showers up. I try to use URL to install the updates, but I don’t know the URL link path. If you know how to solve this problem, please help. Thank you.

February 14, 2013 at 10:15 pm #483477It could be that a firewall on your hosting is preventing joomla from reaching its repository.
You can still upgrade using FTP. Download the package from here – http://joomlacode.org/gf/download/frsrelease/17967/78437/Joomla_2.5.9-Stable-Update_Package.zip
Unzip the package then using FTP upload all the files overwriting the existing ones on your server.
But please, make a full backup of your site before doing this.

February 15, 2013 at 3:03 am #483496I followed your instruction, uploaded the update package to the web site and clicked install button. I got the following error message. Do you know what is wrong?

February 17, 2013 at 2:36 pm #483699Hello Sunbird,
In order to upgrade site from Joomla 1.7 to Joomla 2.5, follow this guide: http://docs.joomla.org/Upgrading_from_an_existing_version#Method_B_-_Extension_Manager:_Install_Method
with Joomla_2.5.9-Stable-Update_Package.zip file http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/joomla/frs/?action=FrsReleaseBrowse&frs_package_id=6610
<blockquote>I followed your instruction, uploaded the update package to the web site and clicked install button. I got the following error message. Do you know what is wrong?

Copy failed </blockquote>I have checked your site and see that you set Enable FTP to Yes, please try setting it to ‘No’ ( go to back-end >> Global Configuration >> tab Server >> FTP setting >> enable choose to No ) then install as my instruction above.
