December 12, 2008 at 10:28 am #136180There’s probably a really easy answer to this one, but …
I’ve been supplied with a .swf file which I need to use in the banner module.
I uploaded the file into the banners images folder, but of course it doesn’t work (I had a feeling it wouldn’t)!
Does anyone know what I need to do to make this work?
Many Thanks

December 12, 2008 at 10:38 am #282575Came across this:
http://demo.joomlaworks.gr/content/view/27/32/
Seems far too complicated! If anyone knows of a quicker method or component, I’d be really grateful.
Thanks

December 12, 2008 at 11:13 am #282585Hi,
I believe that’s the easiest one. I tried before and it works. If anyone has easier, please share with us. Thanks!

December 13, 2008 at 5:53 am #282743I decided to try the code hacking method above. However, when I tried to even start this, I was flawed!
The first instruction is to edit the administrator/components/com_banners/admin.banners.html.php file. Unfortunately, I don’t have that file!
I do have a admin.banners.php file but this wasn’t correct as it didn’t contain the code they told me to find?
Any other suggestions anybody?
Thanks

December 13, 2008 at 6:05 am #282746Morning Jason
Crikey, you’re up early, it’s only 06.00 in North Yorkshire (born and bred in Yorkshire, best place in the world!).
<em>@jay973 95248 wrote:</em><blockquote>Is this any good for you?
</blockquote>Unfortunately not. It’s a separate module. The problem is, I have five banners in rotation in the current banner module. Four of them are animated gif’s, the other one is an .swf so what I really need to do is somehow get the SWF file to work with the standard banner mod.
I’ve been searching the forum at joomla.org and it seems like dozens of people are having the same problem. I would have thought something as simple as importing a Flash file as a banner would have been incorporated into the core Joomla by now!!
Cheers

December 14, 2008 at 6:51 pm #282889Hi there,
I’m also wondering about using flash banners…
I have seen nice things like BannerDesignerPro which makes creating flash banners really easy.
But the problem of course is that there is no standard way in joomla to use .swf files as banner ads. There is a component on the extensions dir called WeBuddha which claims to be a banner management system.. that includes flash banners etc….
But I couldn’t get it to work .. it just gives 404’s when you try to set it up on J!1.5.7 anyway…Anyone got any new possibilites to share on this?
Thanks

December 15, 2008 at 5:54 am #282927Hi Vida
I did find an extension here:
http://johnmccollum.co.uk/2008/07/09/new-joomla-banner-component/Which nearly worked!!
It allowed me to import the banner and publish the .swf file. However, there’s a strange bug, clicking on the banner opens two windows, both to the target site, which is not acceptable for me. I posted a message on the site of the developer so hopefully he may be able to fix it!
It would be far easier to just have some kind of plugin which allows publication of .swf files in the standard Joomla banner module!
Still giving me headaches this one.

December 15, 2008 at 8:42 pm #283022Hey Chris,
Yeah, its a kinda obvious omission isn’t it?I did a bit of digging around today and found this one:
http://www.joomprod.com/index.php?option=com_docman&task=cat_view&gid=20&Itemid=29
Theres a few extension specific plug ins for it on the joomla extensions list as well.. so I’m thinking it might be popular enough…
Haven’t tried it yet… will have a go later in the week and let you know…
Vida
January 5, 2011 at 12:12 pm #370250Instead of adding .swf file in images/banner you could add in another folder and use custom banner code.
see this explanation here. Works for me.

October 21, 2012 at 2:03 pm #470642Great Answer Sandstorm it worked for me straight away. Only question is there more code that you can add to make the swf file loop? If you look at the Qatar Airways banner on the top of my site http://www.millionaireasia-indonesia.com once it goes through its different phases it stops.

Just suggestion, cause this is not our support scope, please add your parameter with
<param name="loop" value="true" />
<param name="play" value="true" />
Hope it works.
