I’ve been trying to get some adds approved on google adwords. However they keep telling me that I’m having an invalid http response code. Even though the page loads. They told me to use an ieHTTPHeader tool. So I did. This is a portion of what it gave me.

    GET /fun-things-to-do-in-salt-lake-city.html HTTP/1.1
    Accept: */*
    Accept-Language: en-US
    User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 6.1; Trident/4.0; SLCC2; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 3.0.30729; Media Center PC 6.0; .NET4.0C; InfoPath.3)
    Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate
    Host: www.poisonivymysteries.com
    Connection: Keep-Alive
    Cookie: ja_social_tpl=ja_social; 7baf0aa7acd735252951dcb117230c59=3acbcbd35c9fe3792aa0550e9cc9c907; __utmc=23365563; __utma=23365563.1680824857.1326296454.1326296454.1326296454.1; __utmb=23365563.12.10.1326296454; __utmz=23365563.1326296454.1.1.utmcsr=(direct)|utmccn=(direct)|utmcmd=(none)

    HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found
    Date: Wed, 11 Jan 2012 16:37:40 GMT
    Content-Type: text/html; charset=utf-8
    Transfer-Encoding: chunked
    Connection: keep-alive
    Server: Nginx / Varnish
    X-Powered-By: PHP/5.2.17
P3P: CP="NOI ADM DEV PSAi COM NAV OUR OTRo STP IND DEM"
    Expires:
    Cache-Control: private
    Vary: Accept-Encoding
    Content-Encoding: gzip

So there is a 404 error that comes up even though my page loads. Is there anyway to fix this? I’ve noticed that it shows up at the beginning of every page on my site. Is this an issue with JA Social or do I have something set up wrong? Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

While I would never unequivocally says “It’s Not Our Template” causing the problem…this is the first I’ve heard of this occurring so I’m thinking there are other things at play.

The one thing that JUMPS out is the use of JCH Optimize plugin. You’re working with a template with this functionality built in…but turned off. So you are better off using what came with the template first before adding others.

Here a test: Take a look at the SOURCE CODE (especially the header area) of your homepage with the JCH on…and then look at it with it disabled. With it on…the header is quite a mess…and that could very well be what is forcing Google to burp. Again, just an educated guess.

Also there are many of our modules/components/plugins that are behind in updating. These should be brought current as well as others before venturing too far down the lane. It could very well be that you’re template needs a good cleaning and optimizing.

Let me know if I can help further.

After talking with Google several times they eventually accepted my site. But I do run into weird problems every now and then. So I took your advice and removed the JCH Optimize plugin. I had been using it before I migrated my site from Joomla 1.5 to 1.7, with a different template. I liked it so I continued using it. I will just use the templates built in optimizer. I also have been meaning to update my extensions for a while, I will go ahead and do that.
    Thanks for the advice.
