    Hi,

    I’m a new JoomlArts member. Just joined today. Bought my first template today. This is my first attempt to build a Joomla website. I have watched a lot of training videos and done tutorial exercises at OSTraining.com.

    I purchased JA Community Plus today. It downloaded with the file name: joomla_1.7.zip .

    The Joomla! Version I have uploaded is: Joomla! 1.7.3 Stable [ Ember ] 14-Nov-2011 14:00 GMT
    And the Joomla! Platform Version is: Joomla Platform 11.2.0 Stable+Modified [ Omar ] 27-Jul-2011 00:00 GMT

    When I go to the extension manager, to the Upload Package File box and press Choose File, and then select from my download folder the joomla_1.7.zip file and then click the Upload and Install button in the extension manager, the browser indicates it is active and in the lower left corner a sort of monitor appears counting off the percentage uploaded. This counting off runs from 1 through 99 and then the filepath to the joomla_1.7.zip file that was in the Upload Package File window disappears. There is no error message and no success message. When I go into template manager, there is no JA Community Plus template or any new template at all.

    In short, I’m bummed because I bought this template and now I can’t get it uploaded and installed and I can’t figure out why.

    Can anyone help?

    Thank you!

    Hi Hank,

    Not sure why you are not getting any error message but it seems to me that you are trying to install a wrong file. If you have downloaded template and all extensions as a package then your downloaded file will be joomla_1.7.zip else if you download template, the file name will show you the name of the template as well.. Now unpublish the joomla_1.7.zip and find tempalte folder in it and install that zip and see if it gets installed..

    Yes, thank you Himang. Much appreciated. I note that on another forum this was one member’s view:

    ” I know exactly what the problem is. I am a recent member of Joomlart and have successfully installed a template of theirs. When you download a template, it comes as joomla_1.7.zip as you stated. If you install it, it will fail. You need to unzip the folder, inside that folder will be several other folders, like components, modules, template, etc. Open each folder and install each extension inside each folder. There are TONS of files you need to install just to have one template to show. Or you can pick and choose which modules you plan on using but I highly suggest installing all files and then removing the ones you do not want later. There should be one XML folder inside the zip that will install all of those files for you, but there isn’t, unfortunately.”

    So I do have this question as a newbie member: Is JoomlArt dropping the ball on the industry standard regarding “the XML folder inside the zip that will install all of those files for you”? Why doesn’t JoomlArts include this?? How standard is this in other template clubs? With such sophisticated templates, it surprises me to hear from someone that a time saving process like this is missing. Also, for what it’s worth, the example in the video training I have been taking, from Pixel Point Creative, I think, did automatically upload the entire zip without having to unzip it and then manually upload the rest of the files.

    But then again, I haven’t tried what you suggest yet, maybe it will not be as complicated as this other member indicates. I am interested in your view.

    Thank you again,

    Hank

    Hi Hank,

    If you use the quickstart package provided in the downloads list of any template, you need to install it exactly like Joomla installation, most importantly you need to install sample data then you will have the exact setup like the template demo. In this case all the extensions and tempalte that you see in the template’s download list will be installed and setup like in demo.. You will then need to delete the sample data and add your own. I know this is bit annoying but it has to be done to get all extensions working with Joomla..

    Else as I said and your post also says, you need to unzip the file you have downloaded and install extensions and template, one by one, as per your need.. To setup those like in demo, you can refer to http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/userguide-ja-community-plus-for-joomla-2-5/ This guide applies to Joomla 1.7 too.
    It gives detailed info about how the modules and menus etc are setup and if any particular module classes are used to achieve the look…

    Try installing the template as I suggested and let me know if you need any help with this.

    Hi Himangi,

    You can disregard the long note below. I have figured out how to uninstall the files I installed, and now I am reading the tutorial on using filezilla to upload and install the quickstart version of the template. I think that’s the answer to my needs. Thank you for your help!!

    Hi Himangi,

    Thanks for your help. Well, I unzipped the file and started to work. The following files uploaded and installed successfully:

    JA Community Plust Template for Joola 1.7.x
    plg_system_jagooglemap.v1.1.2
    plg_system_jat3.v1.5.1
    plg_system_jatabs.v.1.8
    mod_jabulletin.v1.1.7
    mod_jacontentslider.v1.1.9
    mod_jalogin.v1.1.3
    mod_janewsticker.v1.1.2
    mod_jaslideshow.v2.2.1
    mod_jatwitter.v1.1.3
    com_jaextmanager.v1.1.2

    However, the following files would not upload.

    ja_jacommunity_plus_source.zip.v1.0.0
    jatc_community_plus_j17

    I got no error message with ja_jacommunity_plus_source.zip.v1.0.0, the window just cleared and no message. So I unzipped that, and tried to upload and install a file, the first one I came to being the font Colaborate. The error message I got was: “JInstaller: :Install: Cannot find XML setup file” So I did not proceed further. What do I do now???

    With the second one, which I realize now is the quickstart, I got an error message I will quote in a moment down below.

    But first, following the above instructions I uploaded the template zip first. Now, I’m wondering if JoomlArt is offering two ways to upload and install the template: 1) do the quickstart (which contains just shy of 7,000 files!!) and deal with sample data, or 2) upload everything but the quickstart file. Is this correct? I hope so!! PLEASE clarify! Do I really need to upload over 6000 files one at a time????

    If so, I will ask for my money back and find another template club…

    If I am correct, and I don’t need to upload the quickstart zip one file at a time because I already uploaded everything else (excepting the files in the source folder due to the problem mentioned above, for which I need a solution), then I kind of wish I understood the two options before I headed down the unzip and upload the template folder, especially as now I’m having trouble uploading a complete set of the files.

    Also, if I am correct about the option of just doing the quick start, do you recommend I should try this option even if it requires I uninstall the files I just installed, and how big a headache would this be so that I could do the simpler quickstart option???? (I see a JAT clean chache button has appeared in the extension manager–is that the equivalent of an uninstall?) Weighing whatever is involved in uploading the files in the source folder, if that can be done, against uninstalling what I have installed and doing the quickstart, which is easier to do?

    I am probably totally off target since I am so new to this. I hope you can explain my options understanding my concern here.

    Anyway here is the error message I got trying to upload and install the quickstart zip:

    JInstaller: :Install: Error SQL DB function failed with error number 1060
    Duplicate column name ‘ordering’ SQL=ALTER TABLE `vfm_languages` ADD COLUMN `ordering` int(11) NOT NULL default 0 AFTER `published`;
    SQL =
    ALTER TABLE `#__languages` ADD COLUMN `ordering` int(11) NOT NULL default 0 AFTER `published`;
    Files Update: SQL error file DB function failed with error number 1060
    Duplicate column name ‘ordering’ SQL=ALTER TABLE `vfm_languages` ADD COLUMN `ordering` int(11) NOT NULL default 0 AFTER `published`;
    SQL =
    ALTER TABLE `#__languages` ADD COLUMN `ordering` int(11) NOT NULL default 0 AFTER `published`;
    So if I have to install the quickstart zip as part of the entire upload, or if it is an option available, provided I uninstall the files I’ve uploaded, then how do I overcome this error message and get the quickstart zip uploaded, again, without having to manually upload 6955 files?

    Thank you for wading through all of this. I really appreciate it!

    Hi Hank,

    I see there is lot of confusion here..

    As you said there are 2 options to start using the template and extensions:
    1. Use of quickstart file which is placed in the Quickstart folder when you unzip the Joomla_1.7.zip file
    Note that this file can not be installed using Extension Manager, as this file includes Extensions along with Joomla. To get more instructions on how to use this file, please check http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/how-to-install-joomlart-quickstart-for-joomla-1-6/
    You do not need to touch any of 6000 files (Not sure from where you have got this number) separately. You just need to use jatc_community_plus_j17.zip and install it exactly like you would install core Joomla.

    2. This is the option you have chosen right now. That is to install Joomla first and then using Extension manager install all zip files that are located in template, component, module, plugin folders, after you have unzipped the Joomla_1.7.zip file. The files in these folders are the only installable files via Extension manager.
    To know how to setup these extensions such that they will look like in the template demo, please check http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/userguide-ja-community-plus-for-joomla-2-5/ The userguide explains module settings and provides screenshots from demo so that you can relate to demo and settings..

    Note that the files in the Source folder give you the entire design of the template and it is not meant to be installed anywhere. It is just for your reference and if you need any source images for editing to suite your site you can use it from this folder.

    I hope I have cleared your confusion now.. Let me know if you need any more help.
