Have you tried uploading the template files to your server via FTP rather than via the Extension Manager?

Wondering if it may be a PHP version or permissions issue with your server.

Review the requirements for Joomla 2.5 here –> http://www.joomla.org/technical-requirements.html
and then ask your webhost Technical Support if your server is configured accordingly.
