I’m posting this in the general category because it is not limited to one template.

I am able to install someJoomlart templates fine, using the Install feature on Joomla 1.5.

However other Joomlart templates give me error messages about problem uploading the package or opening the package. I cannot get them to install even after re-downloading the file from the Joomlart site.

Currently I have tried installing the Travel template and it’s doing it to me again.

This is not because i am doing anything wrong, as I am familiar with the process, and am able to install some templates fine….and it is not because i am downloading Joomla 1.6 templates for my 1.5 site. I make certain of that.

I cannot figure out why it works with some and not others. The inconsistency is what is really frustrating…. I’m guessing perhaps it might have something to do with the size of the template zip file? But maybe not.

I have tried uploading the unzipped template files directly by FTP but that doesn’t install the tenplate. I have also uploaded the zip template file onto the server and tried to install from that but no luck either.

Does anyone know why this inability to install SOME templates? Is there a fix for this or a workaround?

I just joined but am VERY familiar with Joomla and installing templates. This is the first time I have run into this problem after many years of working with Joomla. About ready to cancel my membership if this is what I am to look forward to.

I am having same problem with Travel template which is the first Joomlart template I have tried and the reason I joined. I get error when using Joomla template installer. All other components, plugins, and modules installed fine but I don’t need them without the template. Also did like you and uploaded unzipped Travel template via FTP. That did not work either. Any solutions?

I have included a screenshot of the problem. Steps I have taken:

    1. Downloaded the install package from Joomlart today
    2. Tried Joomla installer mulitple times (unsuccessful)
    3. Unzipped templated uploaded via FTP (unsuccessful)
    4. Deleted template via FTP
    5. Unzipped template included in the Quickinstall package and uploaded via FTP (unsuccessful)

When I upload via FTP, the upload is successful however the template does not appear in the template manager in Joomla administration.

The most common problem for this error is that the File Size Upload Limit is set too low on your server. What you can do is download the installer package, upload to your server in some directory.

then use the install from directory feature to install it

I will give that a try and let you know how it works. Thanks

I have searched your error on the internet, the most common error is that your file zip is too big while the Server is too slow to load it, let check the file again and “configure in php.ini file” ; by default the size of file is 2M, you can change it to 4M, change the directive upload_max_filesize to “4M” and reload the server configuration.

If you are running PHP in CGI mode on Apache, you can place an .htaccess file in your
Joomla! root directory and place the following code inside:

    php_value upload_max_filesize 4M

You also can increase the size up tp 6 M, some people up to 10 M, hope this works!

Worked perfect! Thank you very much! 🙂

You’re most welcomed. You can also get around the problem by doing some changes to the php.ini or htaccess files. There was a long discussion on this issue on this thread if you are keen to learn more.
