I am switching my site to ja-erica now. As soon as I saw it I liked it.
Nice and simple and clean.
I expect to have the ja-erica version of rowby.com up by friday or saturday and i’ll let everyone know when it is live.
Great work,
Rowby

December 8, 2007 at 1:56 am #234131Hi
Here’s the site stil work in progress:
Couple of questions.
I have given the newsflash module a suffis of topoftheNews. And here’s the css I created — which isn’t working correctly: (it doesn’t seem to be working at all, in fact. The font is not being recognized ad the left padding/margin is not working. I’m doing something wrong but am not sure.
table.moduletabletopoftheNews {
border: 1px solid #CCCCCC;
margin: 0 0 10px 10px;
padding: 0 0 10px 500px;
font-family: Tahoma,Arial, Helvetica, san-serif;
font-size: 15px;}
Any suggestions?

December 10, 2007 at 3:50 am #234275You needn’t put any suffix to make it work. If you want to change the style of newsflash, edit the CSS here:
#ja-topsl {
background: url(../images/topsl.gif) no-repeat left top;
color: #FFFFFF;
font-size: 200%; /*Change the font size here*/
line-height: 1.4;
height: 190px;
}#ja-topsl .ja-newflash .moduletable{
padding: 0 20px 0 480px;
width: 400px;
margin: 0;
background: none;
font-family: “Segoe UI”, “Trebuchet MS”, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; /*Change the font here*/
height: 190px;
}Hope it helps!

December 10, 2007 at 1:50 pm #234307One problem I’m having (and at least one other person is happening, which you wll see on the sticky bug tracker of this sub-forum) is the newslight is showing on almost every page. I only have it set for the home page, but it is showing up on just about every other page.
You’ll see the issue at http://www.rowby.com if you click on the newslight links or the readmore lnks. It looks to the visitor that they are not going to the “full story” — only if they happen to scroll down the page, past the newlight section do they see the full story. This even happens on the registration page.
Any thoughts? I woud assume it is a bug in the template rather than in the newslight feature.
Thanks for any thoughts,
Rowby

December 10, 2007 at 11:47 pm #234336HI Rowby,
The kind folks at joomlart helped me solve that same problem. What you have to do is create a published menu item which makes a blog of a content section. That will force joomla to allocate an id to stop the newslight appearing on every page.
Now, I didn’t actually want that menu item so I added and published it to a new menu that I created and left that whole menu unpublished so it never appears on the site but forces the site to work properly.
I hope that helps but if not let me know.

December 11, 2007 at 4:10 am #234357Hi DD
Thanks for helping out with his. I tried your suggestion but did not follow it correctly so it’s not working. Here’s what I did.
1) went into the Menu Manager and created a fake menu called fakemenu. (I double checked the Module manager and found it and left it upublished.)
2) Then I went into the fakemenu ad and clicked “New Menu Item”
3) On the New Menu Item” page from the Content Section I put a dot in Blog – Content Section, then clicked the Green “Next’ button.4) In the Add Menu Item :: Blog – Content Section page I selected FAQ’s and the Save button.
However when I double checked the home page and clicked on the links the problem was still there.
Can you review the above steps I took and let me know if I missed anything.
Thanks!

December 15, 2007 at 2:00 am #234604Hi Rowby
Sorry for the delayed reply.
My menu item refers to “All Sections” where you have linked it to the FAQ section. Thats the only difference I can see. Perhaps that is worth a try. Maybe make a new item again with “All Sections” as the selection. And chech that although the menu itself is unpublished, that the actual new menu item is published.
Hope that works …

December 16, 2007 at 10:17 pm #234690So I am giving this template one more shot…. initially I was pretty disappointed because while it is a very pretty layout – it’s not working for me at all.
I’m getting that same newslight on every page issue – and I tried this new menu item fix as you guys recommend but it doesn’t solve my problem.
ALSO – what is the deal with the newsflash? It goes WAYYY too big. There is a reference to it in the sticky:
” Your site will look terrible at the moment, menu broken, too big font on NewsFlash,… Don’t worry, we will correct this problem right now” but there is no further reference to the newsflash or correcting the problem.SO – To the people at Joomlart who have happily taken my money for this membership and have so far been missing in action on these forums – please, please, please – tell me what I do to make the newsflashes not look GIGANTIC and the NEWSLIGHT not show on every page please.
Thank you!!!
December 17, 2007 at 12:11 am #234699Stay tuned. I am trying to get someone to help you with the issue of newslight showing on every page.

http://www.rowby.com</blockquote>In your step 4, you should select All sections instead of only FAQ. I also visit your site and the problem seems be fixed.
@sidewalk: Do you make a try like rowby? Can you provide your live site so other could give you a help?

In fact, template is only one part of the game making your site. Problems could come from templates, components, modules or even core Joomla. In many cases, problems come from the way you use Joomla (like in this case, the newslight module displays on all page). So I think it is unfair to say like this.
