I would like not to display the sub menu to the main menu (on the top of the page, above the JA Newsflash) below it menu but rather somewhere else of my choosing.
The problem is that even if I set the sub menu to open somewhere else it still shows up below the main menu (as well as in the position that I chose). I suppose this has to do with the way the template is designed with the main menu on the top of the page only being a mirror of the main menu placed somewhere else.
I might ad that I have hidden the real main menu by deactivating it (as suggested in this forum) and now only show the one on top of the JA newsflash.
I just need a hint as to what code I’m supposed to comment out and I would be extremely happy! 🙂
Thank you!
/Lisa

June 18, 2008 at 9:05 pm #254492did you change your menu option
# Choose your prefer Menu Type
$ja_menutype = 3; // 1: Split Menu; 2: Son of Suckerfish Dropdown Menu; 3: Dropline; 4: Moomenuare you calling the submenu the split menu like I have on mine?
click hereif your referring to the top menu also showing on the left, that is the split menu option and you need to turn that off by selecting a different menu type

June 19, 2008 at 9:33 am #254621Hi, thank you for your answer!
I mean exactly like you explain (and like you have on your site). The top menu showing on the left I’ve already managed to hide by deactivating the menu module. I have also duplicated the main menu and have one below the newsflash.
I am using the split menu option but I’m not really taking advantage of it since I’m only displaying the main menu(s) in one level with the sub menus in the left position./Lisa

June 19, 2008 at 9:56 am #254626Hi bydler.
Do you have any sucessful ?June 19, 2008 at 10:50 am #254639I’m not sure if I understand correctly, if I change the menu option I still get sub menus stuck to my main menu, they just display as drop-down or something else. I want the sub menus to open in any module position (in this case left) and they do – but they also show up under the top menu.
There has to be somewhere in the code that they are made to show up that I can comment out or something like that? Or maybe there is even an easier way – I’m thankful for any suggestions! 🙂

June 19, 2008 at 2:11 pm #254675you need to choose a menu otion other than split menu. If you are till getting the top menu items on the left menu module position you still have split menu activated.
Once you have deactivated the split meny you need to create a new menu and position it in the left module position
do you know how to create a new menu?

Sorry but I don’t know how to create a new menu like the ones that comes with this template and that you can choose between in the backend.
I am not too knowledgeable in php but i usually can figure out what influences what and from there make the necessary changes. Could I start out by simply copying an existing file and do some changes to it? That would make it a lot easier for me…But – if I understand you correctly – it’s only the split menu that shows both in the top position and in the left position.
1. I should change the menu option to something else (and redo the work that I did when I made another top menu below the newsflash so it gets the proper css-styling). Is there any menu style that is to be preferred here – the css one for example?
2. Then I should create a new menu that doesn’t display sub menus as drop-downs (or anything else) so I only get the sub menus displayed where I choose (in this case in the left position)./Lisa

June 23, 2008 at 2:40 pm #255540you can’t do what your trying to do.
if you do not want any submenus, do assign any to a top level menu item
if you want it so that the top menu and the left menu are acting separately and not sharing links, you need to create a new menu item (anything but mainmenu) and assign it to the position you want.
its really tough to figure out what your trying to do
June 23, 2008 at 3:02 pm #255547I’m sorry that I’m so unclear, I have made a screen shot to show what I’m after.
I want to have the two main menus but I want their sub menus to only show in the left position (so I want to get rid of the menu that I marked with the red ring).
I really appreciate you taking the time trying to understand my problem and helping out!

June 23, 2008 at 4:32 pm #255575then you need to follow my directions, create a new menu for the left side.
use either other or top menu
disable the current left menuon the menu at the top disable all sub menu items and you will have no drop downs.
the left menu won’t create dropdowns like you have at the top, so you could use
swMenuFree it is herethis will do what you want for the left menu, it will make nice sliders and let you style them without going into the css.

June 23, 2008 at 5:18 pm #255589Thank you again for replying!
The only problem I see with your solution is that the breadcrumbs will not display correctly if I remove the sub menus of my main menu. I have a lot of levels in the menus so breadcrumbs will be quite important to navigate.
The css part is no problem, I think I can work it out without a module and since I only want one level of menu displayed at a time I don’t really need the nice effects.
I feel like a very difficult person to help… sorry for that!! :-[

June 24, 2008 at 12:40 am #255686no template will meet all of your needs and sometimes its a give or take over what you can have and do. Sometimes you just need to abandon a template and find another that provides for the functionality you want.
